Hello gents

Basically i'm biting the bullet and getting rid of my beloved ps2 and am upgrading to a new model.

Which console is better

I'm not a hardcore gamer at all and will only use the machine to play fifa and pro evo,I have a wii and got both games for that but it is dogshit beyond description.

What console has the best online gaming and also the best games as I may be tempted to buy more?

Any help would be very much appreciated :)

Thanks stef

Well the Xbox 360 has the ring of death (3 red lights) a generic hardware problem with up to 25% of consoles failing in the first 2 years.

In the same breath the Sony PS3 has the yellow light of death which seems to be almost as frequent a problem.

The difference is Microsoft just replace your xbox360 free of charge they don't even bother waiting for it to be fixed anymore its just replace within a week and its done completely free of charge they even pay for the postage!

Whereas Sony charge 120GBP minimum to repair or replace your PS3 once the one year warranty is up. (and then its a reconditioned one that somebody owned before that had ****ed up)

This is a deal breaker for me personally i have had a 360 for nearly 4 years and Ive had 2 (free of charge replacements).

The first time i got a free additional controller and 1 months live as a free compliment they second time they gave me a free game and 3 months live.

The flip side is my mate had a customer service nightmare when he rang sony as he PS3 faulted out with the yellow light of death. We taped the call its ****ing shocking he put me on as im an ex call center manager and i couldn't get anywhere even with the supervisor on the call. Bunch of total twats with zero concept of customer care.

He ended up flogging the knackered PS3 to fund getting an xbox 360 once he hot on linw he has never looked back.

There are many more for and against reasons i just thought i would share this one.

Thanks for that jay, answered a fair few questions there!

****ing rings of death sounds a bit dodgy though?I mean why have a ring in the first place?ps2's and wii's dont have one ffs!!

I also have a 360. I won a launch console and it gave me the red rings about a year later. Mine was modded, so I found ways to keep it running for another couple years before I finally gave up. They have had some revisions in the hardware since then. My new console is the Jasper revision which runs cooler and uses less power. Here is a little blurb about them. They were released last December if I am remembering right and at the time you had to check the power rating on the box in the store to know if you were getting one. I would imagine by now all stores would only have those in stock. I've had mine for about 6 months now and so far so good.

The 360 has some great games. I think the PS3 is starting to catch up finally to the quality library of the 360, but I do not have much experience with that system.

PS3 for me all the way. I'm a senior Admin on an aussie FPS PS3 site so i'm gonna say that. I don't know about the UK, but there's certainly not anywhere half the RROD problems here with PS3 as there are Xbox.
I also treat myself to the odd bluray movie which i don't think you can watch on the Xbox (not 100% sure of that).

Had a 360 for a year and had absolutely no problems, the modern ones are much more reliable apparently!

The 360 ring of death is more or less a thing of the past now, the first releases had a fault on the motherboard where it heated up during gameplay, this made the motherboard expand, then when it cooled down the solder cracked, leaving a damaged board that would work for a few seconds then get the red rings.

I myseld had one replaced within 6 days, called the guy up in the US...box came out to me next day, sent it off to germany and got a brand new one.

Also you can flash the DVD drive in the 360 to make it play copied games, very easy to do as i have done it many times. (cant play online though)

360 all the way for me mate, it has so many games, and a lot are in the budget section although they are fantastic. cant beat call of duty multiplayer.

Got both - use the 360 for gaming and with XBOX Live for online gaming. Just use the PS3 for the Blu-ray player and watching downloaded (cough cough) films on it either streamed from my PC or on a USB stick.

You can also stream to the 360. I believe with XP you have to have media center edition or some 3rd party software if you have home/professional. From what I remember all versions of Vista will stream movies.

There is also connect 360 for streaming from a mac and I use ushare from my linux server as it downloads my T.V. shows/movies for me.

I am on my 5th 360, i even kept a spare console when i was doin all my spare time on halo. I would own both if it was affordable, 360 comes first for me.
