as you know i work for pcworld  and ive been playing around with the new windows 8 and omg its awful.........its geared up for tablets basically and its horrible stupid microsoft if it aint broke dont fix it!! i like windows7 but i can see why! due to the market increase of apple products (ipad/phone etc) microsoft had too do something i guess, i mean the market share now i would say is 70% for microsoft products on computing 30% on apple, where it would of been 90% 24 months ago for microsoft
all laptops coming out over the next 12 months will be mostly tablet based/detacable keyboards!

Not looked into this too much...

I think windows 7 was a step in the right direction. I heard Windows 8 was going to be a bigger step, and that the new Xbox was going to run a version of it too, also making it more interactive with Windows phone.

If things become more 'touch screen' orientated you would think its the way to go... Personally I am not a fan of tablets for surfing, I like a keyboard and mouse/touchpad, but thats because I am a forum user. The kids love the tablet but all they do is browse...

Is it really that bad, what are you having trouble with?

Ive had windows 8 for about a month as we have an enterprise agreement, i agree its shocking, no menubar, an awful phone like splash screen ect.

There is no way im upgrading my staff to this, i think there will be a windows 9 or a MAJOR service pack to allow people to choose the windows 7 look. ive even got software glitches with 8 that i never got with windows 7, its bloody awful, all our suppliers are trying to flog free upgrades, or cashback deals lol.

this is Vista the 2nd.

I heard a similar stroy from a customer, she has just bought a new laptop, PC world (I think it was) told he she could bring it back whne W8 was released and they would upgrade her for free!

that does not sound promising...

Thanks for the info guys, I would have considered upgrading one of my machines to W8, I might think again....

Ditto to most of this, been looking at windows 8 for a few months and it is totally for the new hardware Microsoft are launching, it is almost as if they are getting out of the PC business with this one. That said there are settings to convert the interface back to windows 7 look and feel.
My guess is between Microsoft and apple we will see the death of the PC as we know it over the next five years (in the basic end user area that is, not the developer area), everything is smart pad and phone focused now.

Microsoft only have themselves to blame, Windows Vista was terrible and they were still pushing the 10 year old XP until recently (in fact many people I know still run it.) What did they expect to happen - technology to grind to a halt? Apple have released a new OS pretty much every year for the last decade.

In my opnion Microsoft make the WORST software known to man, and I have to work with it on a daily basis. It beggars belief that free code editors such as Notepad++ are faster, more stable, better supported, and more standards compliant than their 'industry leading' Visual Studio. I ****ing hate it. And as for Internet Explorer...

Have you tried this?
