Just in case anyone is interested, the Windows 7 release information is on this link (dont buy Vista if you are thinking about it)

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/default.aspx

It looks and feels the same as Vista so you wont be very excited by it, unless they make some big changes in rc2, its also very buggy so dont try and use it as your new operating system, its crashed loads on me.

Vista was a stepping stone for microsoft and they used the public to "test" it (at our expense of course  ) hopefully windows 7 will iron out any issues...but we shall see.

Ive tested it in a virtual environment and i wont be rushing out or changing from my lovely slimline XP for a while :)

I have it installed on a partition, like the new start menu but there's little else different.

Isn't it funny that most people opt to use MS's 8 year old XP instead of their new OS. They must be so proud

you would think with all the investment and skills at microsoft they would be able to get it right and produce a decent operating system, Vista was a waste of time and money, there was no way i was going to implement it at work.
They said they would stop all production and support for XP to push consumers towards Vista, it backfired massively and buisnises refused to have their dell produts shipped with Vista.

I've never understood how MS got so big in the first place, XP is the only OS they've got right in the last 20 years, Windows 95 and ME were both slated as much as Vista. I use a PC at work every day but there's never been a point where I've thought they are the best computer. I was an Amiga guy until the mid 90s and then on to Macs.

MS got big purely because of the server based software, they are the only company with enterprise solutions for managing lots of clients, and obviously client and server go hand in hand for compatibility.
Linux is potentially a far better solution, a recent event where hackers tried to break into mac/microsoft/ubuntu operating systems revealed ubuntu as the strongest.
But there is no comparision with microsofts global market so it will never be risked as an enterprise operating stytem. Its a shame because microsoft are short on excuses, XP was a great milestone and they have had 8 years to improve it but still have not produced anything.
