Why do you collect SW ?

My dad was ex army, and we were always threatened with the belt, push my luck once too far and received the belt.
The threat was always enough after that!!!!!
I'm 41 now and it sounds soft but, my dads the person I admire the most in the world, I never understood how hard he worked to give us everything he could, and he's the first I turn to in times of trouble, the grumpy old sod 8)

Long winded version:

  • It reminds me of simpler and more fun times.
It takes away the stresses of being a 'responsible' adult.
I love to look at the artwork on the packaging and the details in the sculpts.
I enjoy the chase to find the items I like/love/want/need...
Cataloguing and recording all the items that I have is cool too.
I do greatly value the knowledge that can be gained and shared in the community.

Very simple version:

  • It makes me happy

100% nostalgia for me. I remember the Palitoy 12 backs from the Toy Shop we used to go to as kids, and I remember the ROTJ stuff from the Toy Shop my Mum and Dad used to have. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy when I check out my collection.

I recently dug my childhood loose collection out from the loft and took a notion to buy a MOC on eBay... once that arrived I got the total bug and a MASSIVE nostalgia kick from it. Then I found this place and now I'm kinda hooked. Mainly focusing on decent Kenner ROTJ MOCs

Maybe its a midlife crisis before I hit 40 next year lol ?

I collect now for the same reason I did when I was 8. Still trying to get all the figures that are on the back of a POTF card. I achieved this about 5 years ago and now I'm trying to get them all MOC. I'v given up on vehicles and play sets just don't have the space or money, but that was only really a goal in the 90's. The nostalgia is a part of it for me but something that has just come with collecting over time.

I have been buying and selling a few bits of star wars toys over the last 18 months, basically when my son was born I quit smoking and needed something to do on my breaks at work. I have found it nice owning a few childhood memories, spending some time with them and then selling them on to be enjoyed by someone else.

I have now decided on collecting loose items for my son to play with so condition is not so important, also for that side of it the vehicles are generally 90s or 2000s as they are cheaper. I also want a few pieces for myself, ideally ROTJ or POTF as that's what a had as a child. Sadly sold them all as a child to buy starcom stuff.

Still, you live and learn

It was 1994 I first discovered Star Wars as a four year old at a jumble sale by way of a rotj comic book annual (no idea which one, would love to own it again). On the front there were monsters and aliens. It was amazing. My dad explained the basic story to me of the other films. My grandmother heard I loved star wars so found a shoe box full of toys at a car boot. Mainly rotj figures but I remember there was a dengar who I thought was awesome. No weapons or anything. Mum and dad did a lot of car boots in the 90s so I was always up early Saturday and Sunday delving into other stalls boxes finding figures for a few pence here and there. I used to flick through my mothers millers collectibles books and ogle original star wars toys with their weapons. None of mine had weapons!
When the potf2 came out I bought a few but wasnt as impressed. They didnt feel as 'classy' if thats the right word. Kinda cheap feeling. And obviously uber muscular, which didnt bother me at the time. At 14 in 2004 I sold anything modern I owned and vowed to focus on just vintage. Then just before I joined this forum, I sold up all my battered old loosies and bought a few nice complete figures with the money. And havent stopped yet, though its only really a blue snag and ten of the last 17s I am after now. I regret selling most my childhood figures but it set me on the path to a nice condition/ complete collection!

As said re-living my childhood, many of the golden memories r full of vintage SW toys 8)
And Mum keeping all my childhood SW toys was great so I could rediscover them in the mid 90s when SW made a big comeback :D

I get a massive nostalgia boost from collecting and as many have said it does remind you of simpler times where you had 'nothing' to worry about, I find that in a way comforting. I get the same kinda feeling from watching TV of the time as well (MASH, A Team etc). I go to a lot of toy fairs with my 6 year old son 'hunting' - I love this time we spend together (even though it ends up costing me a fortune). I find myself looking at Raleigh Burners on eBay (I'd prob be **** on it, had a go on a skateboard the other day - the force in no longer strong in this one).

Ditto there.

I sometimes have the A Team, Airwolf, Buck Rogers or Knight Rider, or Battlestar Galactica on in the background whilst I'm working - I tended to be sat right in front of the TV back then when these were originally aired, playing with my Star Wars figures. A Team used to be on on Friday early evening, after we got back from the weekly supermarket shop, and I generally came back with a new Star Wars figure if I'd been good that week so yes - very comforting and nostalgic.

As for Raleigh Burners! You and me both Jim, seriously looking at buying one as my 6 year old son Zac (named after Apollo's brother in BSG  ) has just started going out on his bmx and I want something I can ride along side him, I think a Raleigh Burner is the way to go!
One of my neighbours recently bought a wreck off ebay and restored it - it's a stunner now.

All the above sums up my reasons. Plus there were quite a few figures I wanted as a child and never had.

Working on Star Wars as I currently do also helps :)

Rayleigh burners........after seeing BMX bandits at the pictures, I was desperate for a Bmx, some of my friends already had them and we used to build ramps and jump them....except for me as my grifter was so heavy very few of our constructions could take the weight, and I would just ride onto it and it would flatten, oh the shame  it's was a tank of a bike!!!!!
Anyway Xmas came and I got a extra burner, my brothers had some scuffing on the handlebar grip, and a scratch on the frame, apparently where Santa ( I know) had dropped it coming down the chimney!
It later came out my pissed dad and uncle Dennis had bought the bikes up form his house but, had decided to ride them, my dad told my years later Dennis jumped on the bike and shot off in a big circle fag in mouth and slammed into his own car.
Anyway I had a extra burner loved it! Red and white, it got stolen that summer
And as my dad said at 4 on the Xmas morning, it's bloody Sunderland colours!!!!
My brother swapped his for a kappa tracksuit a few years later the tit.
