Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and new to this website to be honest. Just had a quick browse through and it seems like a friendly place with like minded folk, so thought I'd jump in and register.

I'm a 41 year old Star Wars fan and I actually remember going to see A New Hope with my Dad and brother when it originally came out. I would have only been 4 years old and I vaguely recall only tiny segments (the scene when the gang first escape tattooine in the Falcon and the final Medals scene). I do however very distinctly remember being allowed to buy a toy from the local Co-Op in Stratford (East London). I chose a Palitoy R2D2 figure that I still have!. Although he has no sticker decal and chewed 'feet'.

37 years later and I've decided to go back and try and finish a collection that growing up I was very proud of but never completed. In terms of figures I had kept and stored them all. Sadly I lost 6 over the years and needed 4 that I never was able to find. Thankfully Ebay has helped out and I'm now complete with the original trilogy Kenner figures. I still need around 10 of the Last 17 but will work my way through those over the next 6 months. Like I suspect many of you think, once the new films hit, there will be a real upsurge in interest from folk like me wanting to go back and revisit childhood collections. I thought, I'd try and make a head start and look about now.

Amazingly as a young kid, I had the foresight to also store a lot of the weapons/cloaks/accessories! It was with great delight that I found a large tub full of these things and all in excellent condition. I am missing quite a few though and seem to have a fair few extras some how. But, again I will search through the net and pick up what I need to fully complete the figures.

That's part of the reason I signed up here to be honest, to get advice on wheres best to shop about, get an idea of prices and how to spot the fakes and rip off merchants. Any advice would be appreciated and I in turn will be looking at helping out with anything I can offer also. I live in Essex and work in the Sussex/Surrey area. If anyone knows of any good shops/markets/boot sales etc that are good picking grounds, I'd certainly appreciate the heads up. I will probably move onto finishing off my Ships collection later in the year but will always be on the lookout for a bargain.

Anyway, long first post. never good etiquette on a forum! Sorry.

Thank for reading and MTFBWY.

Alan

No apologies necessary Alan that was a great first post. Your Star Wars story sounds very similar to mine and I can confidently predict you'll find this place a goldmine of information and the best place to add to your impressive sounding childhood collection.
Welcome to the forum - enjoy :D

Thanks for the nice welcome. Just been browsing through the forums and there is some incredible collections going on here with folk who clearly know their stuff. I just need to find a few hours to sit back and jump right in I think.

I joined here a couple of years ago and posted a few times. But in November 2013 my pc was hacked and lost access to all my pages (my email accounts, ebay, swfuk, facebook, etc ) I am back now :!: :!:

After collecting TVC, I am now collecting vintage ( and making myself skint  ) but loving every minute of it 8) I am 82 in of the 100, and when the 100 is done will look into upgrading some of the dog chews I have  the advice here is priceless and can save a life (my life from the mrs !)

And a big SORRY to ChazB for asking for Hoth figs and not getting back to you........ (the pc / internet probs were the hack :x ) if anyone needs confirmation of who I am, I am on facebook Echo Base Trading Vintage 77-85 as Graeme Clark.

I am just a collector (not a seller) and losing my sanity at the prices of last 17............ :D

Hi everyone!

I'm new to the forum and would like to introduce myself. I'm from the Netherlands and was born in 1973 so naturally SW played a big part in my childhood (and still does today).

I got into collecting vintage Kenner SW when I heard about the prequels being made. I salvaged as much of my old toys from my parents attic as I could and started buying loose figures, vehicles and playsets off Ebay. Every time I got a new item shipped from the US it felt like Christmas when I was a kid (well actually, "sinterklaas" over here in the Netherlands). About 9 years ago I bought a house with my girlfriend and everything got packed up with the intention to pick up collecting at a later time. Because of various reasons I haven't gotten around to that until the fire was relit a few weeks ago when I saw the teaser trailer for The Force Awakens.

My main focus was and still is completing a vintage (1977-1985) loose kenner collection. In the past few weeks I've been able to get a few toys I always wanted as a kid. A B-wing and a CAP-2 and in a few hours I'm expecting a Y-Wing and a Rebel Transport in the mail (birthday money well spend!).

I'm really excited about getting back into collecting and sharing the fun of it with the lot of you!

Martin
