Like I said, you need to read some EU stuff, ignore the Plato stuff
That's me going off on a tangent.

Try and get Heir to the empire, that's a good book to whet your appetite.
This is set after ROTJ

Below a couple of links that may help to get your head around timelines and books

I'm reading Shadows of the Empire again at the momen, this is set between ESB and ROTJ, has Dash Rendar in it, gives you a lead up to Vader wanting to track Luke down to bring him to the dark side, has Luke and Leia learning to use the force, and Luke learning to be a Jedi, there is another character in this novel that poses a threat to Vader and his relationship with the emperor, and brings Black Sun into it

So it all depends where you want to go with story lines :D

Shadows of the empire will give you a lite sojourn into EU and be comfortable as you know whats happened previous to it, and what comes in ROTJ , then if you enjoy that read Heir to the empire

There are free e books to download as well, so that's an option :D

Splinter of the Minds eye which was written before ESB so it has some very odd moments! Luke and Leia were clearly not intended to be brother and sister.

Also Ruins of Dantooine which is ****. It's a computer game tie-in and I don't think the heroes make an appearance in it from memory.

I'd also say some of the tales from mos eisley cantina would take place in that period.

EU is just as confusing as real life

I loved Heir to the Empire and its what got me started on EU books

The trouble is EU is exponential and books have been written in retrospect to feed the habit of EU readers, but some are head and shoulders above the rest.

Heir to the empire being one of these in my opinion

The Thrawn trilogy was awesome as well

I loved the run of New Jedi Order books as well,

It's really about reading one to get a taster, but splinter is ok, as is shadows of the empire as they slot between the three films, but Heit to the empire is an awesome read as a starter, really well written and a great read

As you can see you can pick up for peanuts, I would happily post you a copy of Heir mate but its not worth it when you see how much you can pick it up for on Amazon!

I know, I've bought most of my books on amazon, as that way you can buy 2 or 3 at a time, believe me once you start reading them they are addictive

Here you go...best timeline I've found so far for books as its regularly updated

Really interesting thread. I always assumed he was referring to Leia, but the information here is good food for thought.
I've never read any SW books that weren't the OT. Maybe i'll give one a try.

Another convert Jez? :D

Have a look at the link re SW books timeline, and like June choose something you think you'll read and test the water.

They are in the main great reads :D opens up the world of SW for us SW fans :D

June be careful with the Solo trilogy. There's two of them!
The original one by Brian Daley I think is set real early and was wriiten in the early 80s. The second trilogy by A Crispin was written in the mid 90s and is set later although book 3 of Crispins starts earlier than book 3 of Daleys if that makes sense? You could read as a set of 6 but it'd be more difficult.
I'd do Crispins first.
