I noticed a few times recently on here people using the made up word "bidded" when discussing their ebay bids - just makes me laugh

It's BID

You might be right! Brought instead of bought is another popular one too

Maybe its a regional thing? Us Southerners know how to talk properly ;)

The one that really gets me is your and you're

From my teaching days this used to drive me insane but to be honest this is how language evolves and new words get added, just like bidded ( ), d'oh and wag!

The one that consistently winds me up is the incorrect usage of the words Your, You're

your is a possessive adjective, indicating ownership of something

you're is a contraction (combination) of you and are

The two are not interchangeable.

These days there are heaps of new (so called) words. I think the one that pi$$es me of the most is OMG. 8)

From my teaching days....

You only look about 25 mate! Or are you really a Jedi Master like Obi Wan?

   became a teacher when I left uni!

29.... and pushing 30 - don't want a big shindig but the wife is insisting I have a partay

see all of them new words

Don't get me started on this...
All i'll say is it's "definitely" not ****ing "definately" :x
It's "theirs" when referring to a thing that belongs to someone not "theres" (fyi; there's no such word as "theres")
and it's "your" when telling someone "your collection is growing fast" and "you're" when telling someone "you're collecting at quite a rate"

I think we should refer all new members to this list.

Sorry Joe but it's the Northerners that have got it right, us Southerners are just copying the 'Queens English'.

Look at words like bath, them up north have got it right, it's not 'barth' its bath.

I don't know if can contribute much more to this thread as I am too paranoid of my spelling and grammar (even pasted this into Word to make sure all was well  ).

Sorry I can't take anyone seriously when they say "Eeh by gum"

In fact even the BBC has a handy "print off guide" so us normal people can get by while on holiday in places like Yorkshire - http://www.bbc.co.uk/northyorkshire/voices2005/glossary/glossary.shtml

Anything higher than Chelmsford is north for me

The BBC never lets anyone with a northern accent host a serious show, they are better now than they used to be compared to the early years.

I remember my first time driving up north, as soon as we drove past a sign on the motorway saying 'North' it clouded over an started raining.

On another note, if we think our north is bad, I wouldn't like to live in the north in 'Game of Thrones', it really is 'Grim up North' there...
