Where’s Subzero??

I still check in now and again - hobby has become a full time job so hard to just relax and talk **** these days

He really has vanished from the forum completely. Very strange, I really hope he's ok. Anyone tried sending him a PM?

It's prob not really that strange. Some people get incredibly obsessed with things very quickly, go at it hammer and tongs and then burn out, get bored and disappear overnight. It's just their nature. Prone to fads. I also hope the guy is ok though :)

Yeah your probably correct. I've messaged him, so will wait and see. Would make a good thread, discussing the different fads people have had down the years. :)

I have no idea where he is, in the years I have been on the forum a lot of good old members have left the forum :(

Imagine what it's like for us old old old timers! Those of us who remember the forum's previous incarnations and the coins etc.
Well, as an adult collector since 1993 (I'm not counting my childhood collecting in the 70's and 80's, since I foolishly sold all my toys whilst still a child), and a long-time, albeit occasional lurker on this very forum, I very much regret not joining SWFUK properly many years ago. However, now that you've got me, I fully intend to stay (sorry about that threat! ). I just hope Subzero and some of the other former members decide to join back in with the forum fun again in the future.

Thanks for the warning

Junior Chubb was funny, I think is brother Mumbo still posts every now and then as well as Xpack? They are all missed though. :(

I also miss junior chubb and his brother mumbo, I pm nearly every day with mumbo and I miss that a lot. But I have not heard from him since feb. last year. I know he was busy with moving and a new girl friend.

Wow, this is madness!!

I came on here just to lurk at what people were saying about the Ep.9 trailer and I actually decided to log in for some unknown reason and seen theforceuk's private message alerting me to this thread asking where I am ( thank you theforceuk ). Iv'e actually been back on here 2 or 3 times since I last posted just to lurk for 2 mins but never bothered logging in, I didn't notice this thread though before. I have to say i'm really taken back by this thread and by all of you lot on here and the respect and care you have for people, I wasn't expecting this at all, I thought everyone would have just forgotten about 'that random member' who showed up for a little while. Thank you all for thinking about me, it means a lot. :)

So no, i'm not dead, nor have I been kidnapped, burst into flames, turned to the dark side, or gone homeless and living in an underpass at a seaside resort living off people's leftover chips. But I have however fell out of love with collecting vintage Star Wars, yes it was a fad for the most part and it was all new and exciting getting back into it again, but my problem is when the initial excitement wears off and I run out of things to collect I lose interest, it's kinda my thing. Yes there are a TON of vintage SW toys to collect and track down but I never have been a hardcore collector and into all the little rarities & variants like most of you are on here, to me personally I collected what I loved which was mostly nostalgic childhood pieces and I was fulfilled from this, this was all that existed to me in the end. I reduced my 'fad collection' right down to just 16 loose childhood figures ( which I still have & love ) and decided to call it a day and move on. I also noticed when I came back on here the one time after not posting for a while was that the 'off topic' section had disappeared?, this kind of sealed the deal for me in not coming back on here as I liked that section, iv'e just looked now though and it's back and apparently i'm posting in it lol, don't know what's happened there... Ah well lol maybe I missed it for some reason last time.

I'm fully into my Commodore 64 hobby again now and have been collecting for that, i'm truly in love with my C64 collecting so i'm regularly on the C64/128 facebook group instead of here, naturally. The new games that are developed for the C64 are incredible with what is currently being achieved technically, some i'd even call masterpieces and much better than any other vintage game ever developed, and as new games are always coming out it keeps things fresh, exciting, i'm always looking forward to new game releases. Not only can I collect and display these things but I actually get to enjoy interacting with them by having fun playing them, instead of just having expensive pieces of plastic that I can only display and look at. And I'm not just stuck to only collecting what exists vintage wise, if it wasn't for the new game releases i'd have collected only about 100 nostalgic games then lost interest and eventually move on from that too. Yes there are modern Star Wars figures but boooo I hate them they make me puke!!

My C64 collection, floppy disk games on top shelf, cartridge on bottom...

So iv'e been okay and keeping myself occupied in the C64 community and farting around on games, and going to the gym to improve myself physically and mentally, not much else has changed really apart from this. I do have to note too that when I first joined this forum I was still loving the Star Wars movies, the release of Ep.7 kind of sparked things off and got me thinking about Star Wars again, I built the Deagostini Falcon model, I collected all the vintage figures etc. But then The Last ****ing Mongole came out and it killed it all off for me  .. wooow was that bad brah!, after TLJ practically killed the story and potential this trilogy had, I completely lost the buzz for all things Star Wars ( accept for the OT & prequels ), don't even care about Ep.9 now for the most part and i'm definitely not giving Disney any more money, i'm not supporting what they've done to Star Wars, i'm only interested in what's happening with the Emperor so i'll wait for a copy and just download it. Obviously TLJ was only part of why I stopped collecting vintage figures, the fad wearing off happened on it's own anyway but TLJ definitely put the last nail in, it just made me simply not care any more.

I hope you're all good anyway and doing well and all still enjoying collecting, it feels weird to be posting on here again it's almost like I never left haha. Also toy of the week is still going?!, wow.

I'll still visit the forum sometimes and be around a little, just nowhere near as much as before, i'll be like an annoying force ghost that isn't around most the time but then randomly appears for a brief moment to ruin your day. How can I fully leave?, you guys are great! :D

Richard.

Ha great to see you back Richard.

Think you will be happy to know their is a video game sub forum now, which you may be interested in. :) 8)

It's good to know you're still alive and well, Richard :)

Nice update post above, btw, and impressive C64 collection. All my friends seemed to have C64's when I was at school, but I had (and still have) a Spectrum!... Ah, good old colour-clash! :-D

Anyway, nice to see you drop by the forum, and I hope you don't leave it so long next time :)

Great to see you're still around and it's fair enough to come in out of collecting SW as you may well find yourself back in it one day. I'm more focused on other vintage toy lines of late but it's always nice to check in here and see what everyone's up to.

As for the Off Topic section disappearing, it will only show up when you're logged in as does some of the other sections so you will need to be logged in from now on to check out this area. It's like that little extra prize on here for logging in! :D

Take care for now and hope to see you posting every now and then as it's always a nice read.

Thanks, thought i'd do a bit more of a larger update since I haven't been on here for a long time. :)

Same here all my mates who had a computer it was usually a C64, only ever had one mate with a Speccy, I remember trying my best not to laugh when I went round to play on it and seen the inferior colours and that horrible loading screeching sound, I didn't want to insult him.

Thanks, it's good to be back!

Thank you, I suppose you never know what you fancy collecting again one day so maybe I could get back into it, but as for the very far foreseeable future I know I won't be. Especially knowing i'll be into C64 collecting for a very long time.

Aaahh that's why then thanks for letting me know, I wasn't aware certain sections don't show if logged out  I was wondering to myself "why on earth would they get rid of that section?"

Yes mate thank you, it's nice to know my posts are valued in some way :D see you around on the forum.

Good to see you are still around, who knows if the vintage computer game / console section picks up you may find some interesting stuff , I only had the VIC 20, bbc micro then Atari st but used to look on in envy when I used to go to friends houses as a kid and see the c64 goodness compared to my humble VIC20, sadly given away years ago, there are some good you tube channels for c64's Jan Beta is well worth a look :)

Thanks. Iv'e never seen/used a VIC 20 but they are still very popular today. I was kind of feeling the same too even when me and my brothers had the C64, as we got it in the late 80's and by that time some of my friends had NES's and Master System's and I used to get a bit envious of the better graphics haha, and then SNES and Megadrive came along and we still hadn't upgraded from the C64 and I got even more envious. But it's only now in hindsight do I realise just how superior in some ways the C64 actually was compared to the NES and Master System, with just how much could actually be done on it with different software, and especially the SID sound chip was miles ahead of even later consoles' sound chips which were all digital instead of both digital and analogue like the SID. Also we had our C64 from around 88 till late 94 so it's really burned into my memories and wouldn't change it for anything. Ah yeah thanks for that iv'e seen several of his vids before but completely forgot about that channel, i'm not really into the technical and repairing side of things but i'll take a look again. :)
