I don't normally sit down in front of the tele with my 3 year old but were all full of cold and vegging on the couch was the way to go this morning. She normally watches a bit of CBeebies but today we had Milkshake and CBeebies on live for a couple of hours. Maybe it's just me but the cartoons just don't cut it these days. C'mon is Paw Patrol, Treefu Tom and the Octonauts the best they can offer? Give me Bananaman and The Hair Bear Bunch any day of the week.
Do you think it's just because we're old that the new cartoons don't appeal; is it nostalgia - harping back to the good old days; is it that there's just so much out there today and there's not the same level of marketing channeled into one brand like M.A.S.K., HE-Man and a Transformers; or is it that modern cartoons have to deliver a curriculum whereas old cartoons were just all about good and evil, kick-ass beat-em-ups?
Anyway it stirred up the nostalgia in me again and I made Freya watch a bit of Hong Kong Phooey and Bananaman. So I've started this thread. What's your 5 favourite cartoons or children's programmes from your early childhood, number 1 being your all time favourite.
Here's mine:
5. Top Cat
4. Godzilla (not with Godzuki)
3. Captain Caveman
2. Fraggle Rock (Jim Henson's not the rubbish cartoon)
1. Battle of the Planets
