...missing out on that piece you have been watching intently and does not come up often .... or winning it and realising that you have overpaid?

That's happened to me so many times I've run out of fingers!

I don't see anything wrong with overpaying as long as it's not excessive, so to me it's worse missing out :(

Missing out. Hold on to it long enough and it'll likely go up in value. To add a bit more, Iv over payed many times by too much just to get access to items that Id other wise never have been able to get at market value. Hope that helps. 8)

What circumstances would lead to overpaying? I just think if you pay too much then that's your own fault, unless of course the item is fake or the listing is moody in some way.

i got home drunk a couple of years back, had the iphone out in bed and put in a drunk bid on a blue snagg for sale in the states thinking the conversion of dollars into pounds would be a good deal, it worked out being £130 in the end and it was only in c8 condition, what a wally!

Missing out... the number of times I've watched something on The Bay for a week and then with 1-2 minutes to go something has come up.. usually my mother telephoning oddly and then missing it... GRRRRRR!
Overpaying, well, its a choice you make, unlike your parents... and eventually prices will rise to nett that back out :D

missing out for sure, I know people say be patient as another one will come along at some point but I'm just an impatient sod :?

I must say, i've done both. But over-all, missing out has always hurt way more and i've missed out on some crackers over the years.

I'm with the rest of you - missing out is gutting - especially as some of these pieces are getting harder to source as they are well and truly locked up in people's collections

Over-paying is a downside of chasing certain items but the way Star Wars vintage prices have been moving recently I would be surprised if you weren't able to recoup your spends in the future

I think with vintage Star Wars and pricing it's all about what you are prepared to pay to own a piece, and what someone is willing to let it go for. Any item is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

I have paid what could be considered over the top for a couple of items. I don't feel I paid over the top as I wanted them and was willing to meet the sellers expectations. I am happy with both the items and the prices I paid. I know I probably wouldn't be able to get my money back but since they haven't been brought as investments I don't care. If I really want to get something I would within reason overpay, even if I knew I was overpaying a bit.

That said, buying from the forums usually items are a fair price to start with anyway.

Both make you feel bad, I've missed out on loads already, but guess they were all meant to be. I don't think that you overpay when buying on here though.

It's annoying missing out but I don't like overpaying and a big part of collecting for me is setting a realistic budget. I'm just really tight which means most the time I prefer to miss out. :|
