What Were Your 3 Favourite Non-SW Toy Lines Growing Up?

He-man took over from SW mainly because that's what my mates had. ZX spectrum killed off all other toys. Does hero quest count? :D

What were those toys that looked like robots and fired water? I remember one anyway which had a round head and squirted water out of its 'nose?'

Only just spotted this little gem of a thread Pete. Mine would have to be

1. He-man - I remember getting my dad to draw me one of the characters every night.
2. Ghostbusters - Just loved getting these toys. I remember my mum travelling the country to get me Ecto1.
3. Transformers - My mate had loads of these. His mum took us swimming every saturday on the bus. On the way home, he would get bought a new figure.

Thundercats was also a favorite of mine.
Ahhhh.......................memories

My mum wouldn't let me get it because she thought I'd be going down a dark path....
HQ didn't last long though as Risk took over.

Excellent thread! Lovely to see some BMXers out there, had a Rebel Racing 'General Lee' I bought for a pittance off some lads round the way who were sponsored BMX riders so had loads of bikes. It got nicked in the 90s sadly as they're pretty rare as I understand. Rather like this one.

SW always my fave but other 3 were..
Lego - the 80s space stuff was awesome. Still got a bag of it and found this site with a massive library of instructions, would be great fun to rebuild them back to thier original sets- http://www.peeron.com/scans/
Scaletrix - didn't have one by my mate's set-up was sweet, just lots of basic track parts, loved building new monster tracks and racing for hours.
MOTU - my brother still has his collection which I reckon is about 80% of the figures released approx. Castle Greyskull was awesomely massive and sometimes made a gruesome hangout for my Imperials!

Commodore 64 was the end of my collecting days but me and my brother would pick up various bits from jumble sales so there's some Transformers, Ghostbusters, Thundercats odds and ends about. Had a Subbuteo set which we played for ages, as was a friends terrific Catapault game.

For retro laughs try this from Wales' premier Hip-hop crew Goldie Lookin' Chain, all about being a kid in 1983. It even mentions collecting SW figures (around 2:10). I should probably warn that it's not suitable for young ears, due the mighty GLC being a bit potty mouthed. Fresh!

Good question......

Go-bots - I think these were made by Bandai and slightly preceded Transformers (they were cheaper too)
Zoids - Bloody brilliant little machines, hours of fun
MOTU - sort of took over when Star Wars was fading

I loved Gotbots too. They DID precede Transformers. Transformers basically copied (and bettered) them. I used to buy them with my pocket money cos, like you say, they were much more affordable. I actually have half a dozen sealed examples now. 8)

Wish I'd kept some of my Gobots, my fave was one of the planes - think is was a spitfire or hurricane? others I had tank, Helicopter, limo, Ambulance, Dune Buggy, police car

What sealed ones have you got?
PS - I'm jealous

I have Vamp, Slicks, Wrong Way and Zero. Wrong way is the helicopter and Zero is the Spitfire.
You can see a picture of them here in "other collections".

Amazing to see them still MOC and sealed - great little collection you have there 8)

other stuff i enjoyed was the rubic cube that was shaped as a snake made from triangle also remember speak and spell and astro wars .
can remember playing top trumps and marbles for hours with all kids who lived on our street

We had that snake one, use to get aload of those metal things to where u push it and it continues for ages, like a weight lifter one based on the one with the metal balls hanging where it continues hitting the other ball.

use to like action force, action man, fighting furies and busy bodies

ha ha Astro wars totally forgot about that i loved. that little grey arcade game was so addictive!

i loved atari and the grandstand game console too!
