Dear all,

in order to compensate dragging my son to FF with me I've booked a hotel for a few days in Brighton. Any recommendations what to do with a 13 year old from Sunday evening until Tuesday evening? He'll be coming to Snooper's whether he wants to or not. It's the BH weekend.

Closest 'whole' castle is in Arundel (My old home town), approx 25 miles from Brighton. There are a few ruined ones about too. There is Drusillas Zoo heading towards Eastbourne. Brighton Palace Pier is good for amusements and rides, plus the new doughnut on a stick has opened (i360 tower).

There's a half decent go-cart track in Lancing, and another in Crawley.

No worries Richard.

On the Arundel front, you'll be coming through there first on the way to Brighton.. If you follow the A27 in that is. Just a heads up of possible traffic delays heading towards Chichester, Arundel and Worthing, but as it's a Bank Holiday weekend, you may be ok.

I can highly recommend a walk along Devil's Dyke, you can get a bus there from the town centre. There are also several crazy golf courses past the pier from town (in front of Kemp Town.)

There's a shop down from snoopers paradise called oddballs that sells skateboarding type stuff. Both the lanes and the north laine are worth visiting. There's quite a lot of cool graffiti around there as well. It's not too far from the pavilion, which is not that exciting.

Like others have said the palace Pier is possibly worth a trip. There is a park at the level which used to have a huge skateboard ramp which is gone now but I think there is a new skatepark there.

There is a big bowling alley and cinema out at Brighton marina as well.

Not sure when but during certain times of the year they do tours in the Victorian tunnels under the city.

Oh, and the sea life centre is worth a visit. It's in the most amazing Victorian building. There is an electric railway that runs along the front down there by the arches called the volks railway. There's a bit of stuff along there as well but I don't know exactly what.

Oh, if you are still there on the 3rd the speed trials are on. Basically people racing all sorts of stuff down a standing 1/8th mile on Madeira drive.

I'd second Sealife Centre and Lewes Castle isn't bad either - otherwise it's only £20 and an hours train from London

That and the Harvey's brewery, but probably not for a 13 year old.

Hosted Keynes has the bluebell railway if you want to go on a steam train. Loads of to and film has used it as a set.

Crawley has a go kart track and a go ape as well in tilgate park which is also worth visiting. Crawley itself is a **** hole though

Oooh, sounds like some good stuff there. Skateboards and go karting are certainly in. Not sure if he'd do the sealife centre, we have one up here which is basically some gold fish in a bowl, which puts him off.

Cheers guys
