Vintage X-wing cannon question

Hi All

I recently aquired a lot of vintage ships from a seller on eBay, ive been looking at some of the various bits and pieces today and noticed that one of the 2 X-Wing cannons that were included has a strange bump at the back which isn't present on any of my others (the top one on the photo) and I can't find similar examples on eBay or elsewhere on the Internet.

it looks like the back may be the point at which the plastic was injected into the mould so it may be that this is a production error and that this bit was meant to be removed? Alternatively could it be a repro?

If anyone has seen anything similar or has any ideas please let me know.

Apologies if this isn't the most enthralling of topics, I'm a bit of a detail man and like to study things closely and I know there are plenty of people on the forum who do the same!

Welcome to SWFUK, Will.

I'd say it's fine. As you say, it's the point at which the cannon was was attached to the sprue/tree at the point of manufacture. It looks like part of the sprue came with your cannon. I've checked my spares and none have this, but it doesn't mean yours is fake.

Hi
Thanks for your reply, and for the welcome

Like you say it does look like a manufacturing odity and I've not seen much in the way of repros as I guess they aren't as valuable or in demand as other items so hopefully this is a real one.

In the absence of funds to buy the more unique or unusual SW items I love having things like this which are a little different in my collection so I'll add it to the X-Wing I have on my self
