Hi all,

I figured this is somewhat vintage Star Wars related, so I'm posting here, if you feel it should be moved to the Off Topics, please do so. :)

Maybe you have heard about it, ratherchildish (RS member and owner of a great blog, I don't know if he's a member on here too?) has called for his annual photo contest. I have also submitted a pic and am honored to tell that I'm among the final 8 to get featured in the votes. If you haven't seen it you should totally check it out, they are all really great entries.

While my personal favourite is the picture with the Ewoks, I really would love to win the prize (MOC ERG)!
Also props to Dr. Dengar for his Black Wampa - epic! :D

Some great pics and set ups, loving them all but you've got my vote dennis :)

Well done getting that far Dennis. My vote has been cast...

Good luck :D

BTW I am entering next year

A SWFUK photo comp could be good in the summer...

Tips? Well here's my ten pence worth.

1 - Use a tripod or some sort of support.

2 - Do not use mobile phone cameras unless it's you and your mates pulling silly faces in front of a national monument.

3 - Really to take decent shots you need a DSLR or something with a large sensor. The reason is that they simply capture more light and allow for greater use of aperture. You don't have to spend a fortune. Do what i did and go second hand. Try Ffordes.com

4 - Photoshop/Photoshop Elements or similar are a must if you are serious about photography.

5 - Obviously the people who have taken the better shots in this comp have had an idea of what they wanted to see. If that's the case have a reference at hand to work from. That's why i love the Ewok shot. It's a great idea and nicely set out with good lighting.

6 - Probably the most important thing is framing your shots. Don't just shoot willy nilly. Compose using the surroundings. That alone separates the men from the boys.

7 - All of the above is bullshit if you have a great eye for shots and use of light. Good photography is all about light.

some excellent photos - good luck with it Dennis (but I think 3PO has it in the bag)

For me it was a close call between your pic and 'Arrival on the Death Star' - voted for you cause of the Hoth Stomies!!

The Ewok celebration seems to be winning although good not as good as as some of the others IMO

Good Luck

Beauty lies within the beholder's eye. Does that make sense? It is a German saying, don't know if it makes sense translated to English. :D But I hope you get the idea. :)

Anyhow, from a hobby photographer point of view I see how well prepared/orchestrated the Ewok pic is. That's the reason why it has so many votes and I can totally understand it, that's the reason why it is my favorite after all.
And yes Stormtrooper, I also like the 'Arrival on the Death Star' a lot!
I think the other Hoth pic with the Rebels is a gem too, it looks so much like Kim Simmon's work, I was even wondering if Kim has participated with another name. :)

I had looked at the submissions for last years contest and I thought it would be a piece of cake to win. But this years submissions are all very good!

Any vote is very appreciated, thanks guys. :)

P.S.: If you would like to see the outtakes of my shoot, you can see them here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/maniac79/sets/72157632618489770/
