How much does something like this go for?

The one I got from the same seller, that I emailed to see if he has more, cost me $100. If he has one I can just send you his email addy and intro you guys so you can get it direct from him, rather than him shipping it to me then me to you. I'll let you know when he replies.

Cheers
Joe

love that boxer - never knew Darth had a fine line in knitwear :?

The Eagle one and Viper are pretty good too

Ahhhh I used to have the small die cast eagle one.

What about the red shadow action force skull / tie fighter thing that palitoy did "inspired" by SW ?

And the potf at-at with howitzer in the back. Only a proto kit bash but it looked cool.

That BattleStar Viper was awesome, I had one of these. It actually gained enough respect to hang with my Star Wars toys (Word :!: )

ooooooooooor the one in my avatar? <<<<<<<<

Roboskull was indeed inspired by the TIE Fighter, as was the pilot, Red Wolf. The name Roboskull was actually the working concept name for the Skeletron figure, but got changed by marketing as it suited the vehicle better. Looking face on the wing sides, they are modelled on gothic church steeples and the tips of the eye and jaw cannons are a modified moulding of the Millennium Falcon Quad Cannon tip.

Concept hardcopy of Red Wolf Torso:

Palitoy had a neat little animation of the Roboskull made too for the tv advert in which it attacks the APC before being fended off by the Triad Fighter, coming to a Volume II DVD of the Palitoy Advert Archive soon ;)

Thanks for clearing that up I have looked at you Avatar before and never figured out what it was due to the angle of the pic :D

Ye, he is indeed Action Force. I had 3 of them, though sold them to my brother, since he is a huge Action Force / GI Joe collector. I just noticed he looks like the Tie Fighter Pilot, maybe I should get 1 of them back :D

the similarity does not stop there, there are plenty of other references in the toyline too )

anyone recognize the hatch piece between the two cockpits?

Thanks for pointing out these little bits of mix and match. Its quite an eye opener, my bro' has a RoboSkull and I am itching to check out the guns moulded on the Falcon Turrets. I don't recognise this vehicle though (apart from the hatch!!). Are there many more?

There are several :)

They have all been modified to a degree, but if there are any exisitng pictures of the prototypes, which were more kitbashes, it makes it a lot easier to identify, for example, this is a picture of the mock up:

Oct83a.jpg

The vehicle is the Sealion, one of the most elegant of the line and beautifully designed. It is a two man submarine with detachbale scuba pods, recovery tow ropes and a front mandible claw that can be operated by a kid with a lever at the rear to pick up/ eat stuff :)
A nice little Star Wars reference is 2 of the 3 guys who designed it actually built the full size Y-Wing engines and full scale Snowspeeder for the films.

Some were only used as mock-ups and the final toy is very different, like this US Paratrooper using Luke Bespin:

Others are not so obvious, but if you look carefully, you can see where the drawn inspiration has come from. The Cosmic Cruiser uses a re-model of the Snowspeeder gun/ engine pods as jets:

while others are blatant, Baron Ironblood sure had the advantage with a variation of his firearm:

(sorry had to make a another post, typing was going really weird on screen)

One of the best though is the Satellite Defense, a frankenstein of the wave 1 snowmobile, the GI-Joe Vamp Jeep and the Millennium Falcon.

The base part is the snowmobile with the Vamp cannon and instrumentation panel and moulded into the base, the Millennium Falcon radar dish:

Pictures by Thundershot, a fine member, along with ODB of Blood For The Baron: http://bloodforthebaron.com/

Here's a little Friday scoop as I don't think I've shown this on any Star Wars sites before, but here is the original vac-form mould of the dish and base that is underside part for the Satellite Defense:

If you love this sort of thing, always tap me up, there is a book being worked on with one of the Lead Project Designers which coveres the Palitoy years, but also the fine folk at http://bloodforthebaron.com/ are a great crowd too - even if ODB is a member there ;)

Thanks for the info David, great stuff. I had the Satellite Defence and the Falcon as a kid never had a clue on the similarities. I am itching to have a look at some old bits and pieces at my Dads/Brothers.

Got to check out that link too even if Ol' Dirty Bastard is a member there!
