Forgot to say thanks for mentioning the French MF came with free Han and Chewie figures, I nearly went off the road when I heard that - I distinctly remember getting those with my Falcon on Christmas morning because I already had a Chewie so though it was really strange I got another. I'm thinking I had the French version for some reason. My instructions (all I have left) are Palitoy. Going to do some more research on this one

Did your falcon look like this?

If so it came with both English ROTJ and French ESB instructions.

2. FB brings lots of new blood into our hobby. It does but a lot of it is random and casual, I get fed up reading about people buying items that they have no clue about. "hey look what I got, what is it, I can't remember seeing it in the films" - It's a f*ckin mini rig, you don't know because you didn't play with them as a kid, have done zero research on your new "hobby" and will be collecting something else this time next year.

I've picked up a couple of bits through FB groups (of which a new one appears every month), but I do see it more of a shop and showoff area than what we have on the forum.

There is very little, if any, sharing of knowledge on the FB groups and there are (in each group) one, two or maybe three self appointed experts that seem to be turned to for all areas of collecting knowledge rather that the more considered approach we see on this forum where we acknowledge one member is the one to impart knowledge across a certain genre; Frank for Baggies, Grant for Oddball etc.

They do have some good ideas though, I found the idea irritating at first, but the name and date slip of paper in FS photographs is a good idea to stop the re-use of images in eBay or other FS posts for example.

Overall though Shop and Showoff has little heart or soul and only a passing interest for me.

I'm almost positive that my Falcon came in an ESB box, I have no pictures but have some good memories of it.
Always thought it was strange I got those carded figures with it, can't remember if they were French cardbacks, I do remember the name plates were cut out of both which I assumed was done by my Mum. I had Chewie already and no way my folks would have bought doubles so they definitely came with the ship.

The biggest problem with Facebook is that it will be replaced by the next big thing - look at MySpace.

Forums are around as long someone is interested in keeping them going.

IMO they don't compare, FB is all about the now

And finished. Obviously disappointed not be involved in the fb debate given I created the first vintage collecting group on Facebook back in 2007 which has just clocked up 15000 members.

On the technical side, the mp3 you download from podbean was completely untagged this episode, which makes finding the podcast on iphone in My Music extremely difficult.

Loved the 3 pack advert.

I'm sure I've already put this somewhere but if not.....

This was not planned. From the idea until the recording it was 2 days. It stemmed from a post that Matt George put onto fb. In a nutshell he was sick and tired of the fb bashing across many podcasts and very podcasts portrayed fb in a positive light. He wanted a voice for the fb collectors and they will be releasing their own podcasts soon. I posted on the thread saying that although we believe there are many negatives to fb (or how the users are interacting with it) we'd be happy to host a roundtable. Almost immediately Bill Harvat from the SW Bounty Hunters posted similar and then said he's love to be on. So that was 3 immediately. Ross also asked to come on but admitted himself he's been on a few times and thought a different voice would be cool. We needed a forum balance but someone who could record in a few days. Not one of the fb guys. We tried some RS guys, some TIG guys and one agreed. Grant wanted to come on too but he was at a con or something - it really was that last minute. It couldn't be postponed as I was off to Spain a few days later.
Unfortunately the RS guy pulled out as he felt it wasn't for him. Ross agreed to step in at the last minute which clearly made this FB heavy. Stu was invited in to give balance (and because he was free at the last second!) We then agreed, and based on feedback, that the FB users have had their say. We will follow up with a forum grouping at some point. And then probably plan a finale with a balance from both sides.

I found the podcast a very good listen as always. The FB chat was good, even though ive never used it and never will.
