VINTAGE REBELLION PODCAST : Episode 16 LAUNCHED

Another great listen. The Facebook round table was very interesting. Although I agreed with a lot of what was said, I can't agree with arguement made by Ross on FB search functions. Forums have FB beat hands down when it comes to looking up past threads up. The historical element of the forum can not be underestimated and until FB offers up similar functionitly it will never compare.

When it comes to interacting with others SWFUK is definatley my go to when it comes to collecting online. FB is just a lot of noise and ego. I often peruse what's for sale but can't say I've made friends with anyone like I have via the forum. Although I do generally end up having conversation with members via FB messenger.

Although I agree FB is the place to go to sell quickly and I've often sold on a couple of them, for more desirable items I'd definitely offer them up first on the forum. I also appreciate that seller like Iain still gives us first dibs on his.

We're still seeing more members joining and I think this forum is far from dying.

3hrs in and I've already bought a blaster (thanks for being middle man Iain!)

Hope there are no other product features in the last hour and a half - I'm meant to be saving money

Great show as ever lads

Really enjoyed this. Wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. Nicely done. Now I need to go back and start listening to the older pods.

I couldn't download it though. I'm on Android and searched for it in the Google Play store but found no results. Not a big deal, but it would be nice to be able to pause it and then return where I left off.

But, again, great pod. I'll be tuning in for all future ones.

Hi Arthur, I'm glad you enjoyed it. We'll look into the google play option. There are numerous free podcast apps you could try. We'll get back to you though.
Are you gonna go backwards through the episodes or forwards from number 1?

I too listen on an android.
I use an app called podcast addict
Its free and works great i use it to listen to all my podcasts!

Great show as always. I also use Podcast Addict on Android and have never had any problems.

I've joined Facebook. And died a little inside. :(

 I know what you mean. Although if you come back here regularly I find it a great resuscitation technique and something like a reverse lobotomy.

Not sure. At first I thought I'd start by picking individual episodes that I thought I might be interested in but then realized that I enjoyed the whole episode I listened to so perhaps trying to cherry pick them wasn't such a good idea. I guess I'll probably start from episode 1 and move forward so there will be a natural progression and if anything gets referenced in a future episode I'll understand it.

And I'm going to go get that podcast addict app right now. Thanks for the recommendation, folks!

Great show again guys! I think it's a good idea to do a round table part 2 with some forum lovers as it was definitely a bit of a one sided debate, they had some very valid points but as others have said Facebook in its current form cannot compete with the archiving capabilities of forums, think how often important threads from 10+ years ago still get dragged up (Toni, Billy Boy, Saga Museum book rip off etc)

One technical issue for me - it kept crashing my iPhone, about 5 times throughout the show when I tried to pause or go to my home screen while playing my iPhone showed the apple logo and reset. Bloody annoying as it lost the place each time so I had to seek through. This was using the standard podcast app. Anybody else have this problem? Haven't had it on any of the other shows.

Hi Edd, I'm not sure about the crashing, will stretch our heads about that one.
Yes there will absolutely be a follow up/counter to it with an incredibly pro forum message. We were only discussing that last night. There are dozens of reasons why the forum is a place to go to for collectors. We will intend to elaborate and educate and hopefully bring a load of fresh blood into here.
As you know this place will always be the spiritual home for us, hence always being the first and major factor in the acquisitions element.
We'll be in touch to get some pro forum voices soon!

I had no issues on my iPhone 5 but I do one some other shows and it's intermittent. Bloody annoying but it is an iTunes issue. We will have a part 2 to the debate without a doubt.

I would really like a pro-forum roundtable as I think some points made by the Facebook fans were extremely valid but some could be refuted.

I also suffer crashes on Vintage Rebellion podcasts sometimes. Perhaps its the length having effect on the memory. It only happens when i fast forward, rewind or pause.

The problem is that most pro-forum users have a Facebook page now. Just look at the biggest posters on here.

But I agree, Toytoni couldn't be done as well on Facebook, or cataloging every MOC that appeared on a Kenner 65C for example.

Perhaps the forums need to evolve as more resouce based where more great threads are recored for refrence and historical reasons.

Who knows- lets organise and host cross-forum roundtable.

I had that too Edd, did it last episode too. May be coincidence but I did took an IOS upgrade around that time - thought that may have introduced the problem.
And re the forum vs. Facebook debate - felt Stu cut a peripheral figure in that and am not too surprised since he's involved in the majority of every podcast and it was probably felt that the guests should speak more. That said his was the only pro forum voice so the balanced debate wasn't really there. Cracking listen as always though guys!!!

I agree Lom.

On RS they have a geat thread called:

"Share your old (now deleted) favorite threads! "

I feel we could have one of these here as a sticky.

The Podcast app crashed at least 6 or 7 times when I listen, but it's usually prompted by an interuption such as a phone call, text message, etc. so put it down to Apple. I even upgraded the firmware to try and resolve the issue and had same problem. The podcast App has a long history of being unstable.

FB v Forum debate: nothing new to add. It did come across rather one-sided and it would have been persuasive enough to get me on FB if I wasn't already there. That said, nothing will replace this forum, partially because this is a forum and FB was never designed to be a forum or a for sale thread or anything other than a way for friends to connect. As such, it makes a crap forum. FB is good for seeing what's out there in the wild, here is good for education, having a laugh and being amongst (mostly) like minded people. Far, far too many fools on FB. If you thought eBay was bad..... With FB, the lunatics have definitely taken over the asylum.

Saga Museum book rip off....sound interesting. Going to have a read now.

Viva SWFUK!

Yeah don't worry guys I'm sure it's nothing to do with your podcast file, it must be an iOS or podcast app problem. Not sure if there are any other good podcast apps to recommend instead?

I think the main FB point I disagreed with was the comment about content on FB not getting lost because you can search - that's all well and good if you know what you want to search for, but how many new collectors are going to know to search for 'toy toni' or 'fake mocs/baggies/AFA grades' etc? The beauty of forums is that all that info is there to browse, you don't need to already know it exists to find it. That's kind of the point of the vintage reference library on here, in fact I should probably move the 100+ page Toni thread in there and sticky it, so much info in there.
