Vintage figures on Cut Cards - Opinions?!

Cut ones also make great candidates to restore and place back onto a cardback.

Nail on head for me....from the wise old sage :D

If a cut card can be trimmed and applied unopened and restored to an original cardback this to me is one step up from a reseal, and in between reseal and MOC.

From a budget point of view, for lower end collectors like myself, you will have a market.

Surely this is far better, than u grading.

After all loose figures are often displayed with cardback behind it.

I know there is always the caveat, that the unscrupulous would try to dupe the unwary.

This is my opinion, and works for me. :D

They open them....rip them off...slice the bubble....keep the figure...or worse grade them....then I put it all back together........Ironic really.

Reseal them back onto the original card back if you can. Both my Luke and Leia are from sealed palitoy 12 back cut cards that I have restored here -

It takes a little while and a steady hand ( and balls of steel when it came time to pealing half the back off the cut card for mounting! ), but it's more than worth it in the end. I've also done the same thing with a 21 back Boba and also a few other 12 backs that were opened cut cards i bought (probably from a U grader  ).

We are talking about those sections of cardbacks cut out with the bubble and figure still sealed on aren't we? If so I don't see why people do that to cards, probably a 90's thing. Sealing them back onto a card for display would be the best use of them as far as I can see. No-one would be fooled by it but it would be nice and displayable.

While I appreciate that re-carding them so to speak is the right thing to do, it's gonna be a hell of a task to match up the card with the bubble and sometimes the cut cards are as much as the MOC figures!

I'm afraid I wouldn't have the time or the cash to buy individual parts and get then back together. I think we are getting off the point here.

That's great work Palifan but I won't want to do it to 92 figures.

If the consensus is that most do not agree in opening them then I will find an alternative option.

In terms of finding 'mint' figures, I think Rich has it nailed - buy from reputable seller who advertise them as mint and if they aren't then send them back

I would say that I have had hundreds of 'mint' figures come through in the past year - most of which I have sold on here

I don't see the point in busting figures off cut cards just for the sake of finding a 'mint' figure. There may be the odd exception (the DSD and Original C3P0) spring to mind but I would say with a bit of PATIENCE then you will find every figure in the condition that you are looking for

Understood on the buying from a reputable seller... Know any?! Lol.

Only problem is that they don't refund in full including return postage.

What else can be done with these cut cards?

I don't think there is gonna be many people out there doing stellar work and finding the cardbacks and re-carding them like Todd and maybe a few others do?

Keep the input coming then I will re read and make a decision

What about looking around the larger toy fairs/conventions the best way to ensure quality of loose figures is to buy out of hand.

Possibly mate, but how many am I gonna have to go to and what costs involved such as travel and entrance etc...

I'm thinking maybe a graded 90 loose and break then out.

Not u-graded though.

Just to clarify...From what I know...all the cut cards came from the Kenner employee store. I say do whatever you want with this one Bram. If a cut card appears to be a better route for a certain figures...then go for it.

It's all about time scales as well, marathon or sprint, if its something that is being put together relatively quickly, or a background steady approach.

"all the cut cards came from the Kenner employee store"

Please explain for me ( being dumb) I never shy from asking what I don't get :D no matter how stupid I look

i seem to be in the minority but if the card is cut away then i don't see any problem in opening it. if its a moc i would say no even if it is in horible condition but a cut card i say go for it.

Well to answer both of the bottom 2 comments.

If they are from the Kenner store then they do have historical value as far as I am concerned. If they were cut down cards from collectors then I have the same feeling.

I believe Kenner Employee were able to purchase them at a discount from the Kenner store. Going on what information I have found out since asking.

Hope this helps.

So.... We're they in the Kenner Store in this state already cut

If so, why were the cut? ( faulty damaged cards etc?)
