Vintage figure evaluation please!!

There's no way of telling.

This figure does not compare to the 30 backs that have recently sold on eBay.

£500 is a good price and removes all the eBay fees, and is far more than I have ever seen one sell for.

Depends on whether our friend snake-eyes a.k.a actionforcetoys would have been bidding.

He has been paying top $ for a number of items.

Nah, he'd probably pass it over if it didnt get a UKG-85  To be fair, he probably wouldnt have a clue if it was or wasnt rare.

Blimey Chris

I know signatures are a no no for a lot of people- 130 for a Vader tri without a sig is a heck of a sale let alone with!

Tell me about it mate. I had an offer of £150 for it after the auction ended and that from someone with serpentine eyes.

As for the Palitoy R2 I would have been tempted to hold out for a little more because t condition looked great and Palitoy seems to be selling well right now but at the end of the day if your happy your happy. And if Gary says it's a good price then you cant really say fairer than that. He knows his Palitoy onions.

By the way Gary, if you are reading this you should have an email from me mate. :D

Yeah im happy with what i got specially as it had been sitting in a cupboard for about 10 years

And that's the most important thing. Glad you got a price you were happy with. I bought the C3P0 version of that card from a guy who had it for years not knowing its value.

By the way Gary, if you are reading this you should have an email from me mate

Yes I am. Cheers mate.

I flogged the pali HST 41 for £900 and had a lot of offers on or around that price, Palitoys are crazy at the minute and flavor of the month.

I dont have a clue whats worth what as its not my field.

Palitoy prices have done this before. Admittedly this is a particularly strange one.....£900 for a 41 HST is amazing. That's the most I have ever known one sell for.

There has recently been a sudden rise in people collecting, which probably explains the sudden jump. Palitoy MOC certainly isn't becoming rarer, if anything many pieces are becoming more common.

From a bystanders point of view I agree, at least on this forum you have plenty of people show off different Palitoy runs and uncovering more Palitoy MOC, in fact as far as limelighting I would say far more runs of anything Palitoy are shown than anything Kenner!

For me personally its the prospect of finding a MOC that may not have been seen before or an example where there are only a few in existance.
To me thats far more interesting than a common Kenner MOC.
Joe do u think Palitoy get more oe a showing here as its a U.K. based forum?

I think that could be a factor yep, I guess its always been out there and popular to an extent but the last couple of years have been mad for how much Palitoy stuff has been shown off and even to an extent up for sale - Maybe I just wasn't watching for it before but I am definitely not looking for it now and still see it!

Not to move away from the discussion but Gary might know- there was a guy on RS called Full_on_robot_chubby (I think) and he had a lot of PBP + Palitoy stuff (probably a full set if memory serves me right) but he seems to have dropped off the radar, anyone heard from him?

John Ford I think.

Sold up years ago.

There has always been a lot of Palitoy collectors, but it tend to go in waves. People start full on, price go up for a while. People get bored, start selling up prices settle down till the next wave starts.

There was a big wave in 2000/1. Lot of competition for pieces, and back then people said a set of the first 12 was near impossible! Me and a large set of collectors were involved in that wave. Virtually all have sold up. There have been several since and I believe we are on one now.

Palitoy prices are always unpredictable.
Recent ESB Palitoy prices have surprised me, especially for 41 and 45a backs. 30 back prices have been high the past 5 years.
When i started collecting in the late 90's ESB cards were not as sort after has the Star Wars first 12 cards , but that has definately changed in recent years.

I'm not so sure.

2 30 backs have sold for stupid money on eBay, several haven't. They haven't always been high, though that term is relative. 2008 a loads went for sale on eBay for considerably less. Two went for a lot...White bespin guard was nearly 1k, but that's easily one of the rarest of the 20 ESB characters, and HST for around £800 as a lot of HST focus collectors were waiting for one to show up as well as the usual palitoy mob.

Bossk, Han Hoth, HRS, Lando, all sold for around the usual amount, below £500

A few years before, a load turned up on Vectis and they commanded the usual prices for things. And earlier this year/end of last year a load of 45a and b turned up on Vectis and sold for reasonable amounts.

Plus there have been a lot of behind the scenes deals that no one has seen where prices have remianed fairly constant.

I honestly believe there is a sudden surge in interest and that's pushing the prices up. Plus a number of people are buying things without any idea of the availability, believe anything with Palitoy on it is mega rare. That is pushing up the price an additional amount.

Palitoy figures are way more common than they were 10 years ago.

Interesting point you make Gary about people thinking pieces are rare just because they are palitoy.
Take the 41bk R2 that was on this forum the other night. Now I've only been collecting Palitoy seriously for around 4 years but in that time i have only seen yours and 1 other. Some cards just seem to come up for sale so infrequently that when they do there is a mass scramble for the piece that comes available.
i think this goes someway to explaining the current prices. If i was new to collecting i wouldn't have a clue what to pay for stuff.

I think at the end of the day, the price of things depend on what people are prepared to pay, especially with eBay.

And when you've got people who are unfamiliar with things and not sure just how rare something is, prices can go crazy. It's the same with all star wars items, there's often odd things going on. We just notice the ones mentioned more because they're palitoy, it's what a lot on here focus on.

I think you also have a ton of american collectors who have been collecting for years and have completed their Kenner run of figures and are now expanding out to things not from the states. I am one of them and now have moved onto Palitoy.

****! Just realised thats John from the palitoy cardback site, all makes sense now, has anyone heard from him since then?

His last posts on RS were 2005 and his site was last updated in 2005 but surely he just didnt drop off the radar?
