Vectis Auctions 24th & 25th Feb 2016

Anyone know what the opened (and torn) Meccano Yan Solo closed at (lot 4152); I didn't win, but left a commission bid and am guessing it went silly???

Cheers

Thank you

OMG!!!

I'm well off the pace then... I thought with an estimate of £2-300 I'd put what I thought was a mad bid (almost double the top estimate), it was very badly torn and had edge wear and a whole corner missing (cut) and it still hit OVER a grand including fees...

Foreign Han... I'm going to sadly admit I'm probably never going to get one.

I knew those Meccano cards were going to go high as they never seem to come up in any sort of condition, how did the Luke and Chewbacca do?

55 bidded lots! your mad as a box of frogs

so how many did you win out of 55?

Just the AT-AT driver, and that was my big want. I didn't bid much, just enough so that something that should say sell for £200, didn't go for £60 and I kick myself.

£1100 for Luke and £850 for Chewie.

Meccanos are a bit 'different' to other MOCS - many meccano collectors will accept reseals as sealed are so hard to find, and a lot of bubbles fall off anyway. The Han was still partially sealed (the top) which makes it kind of cool. The last one sold on FB for a bit under 1300euros (that was asking price - there was an offer accepted I think), and was in similar condition (maybe a bit worse).

Saying that, the £850 was pretty high all things considered - but is a reflection in the market rather than just 1 lunatic going silly, IMO anyway.

I bid on 55 lots, just enough that I didn't miss a deal. I was really after 2 items, one of which I knew I had no chance of - the Italian DSC. Yeah no way I was paying £1375. Although I bid a good amount.

I however got my boy - AFA Graded 85 41A AT-AT Driver. £360 (£450). One of these with the exact same grade sold recently on eBay for $1500. RESULT.
I guess I can understand bidding on 55 lots so you don't miss a deal, but hasn't that potentially just bumped up a **** load of items for everyone else to pay for?

Very nice AT-AT Driver though - thought about that one myself as it would have been an upgrade on mine but it went too steep for me. Glad a forum member got it though!

it's a fair point to bring up, but impossible to avoid in an open auction. I know others that put lots of bids in and only came away with a couple of items. I assure you though, my bids are well below what I know something is worth. The pop up R2 for example. I put £100 on, it went for £220 I believe. To be honest, I've not seen this discussed on the forum, would be good to know if it's frowned upon.

A lot of stuff seemed to go really over price in my eyes, the only stuff that seemed reasonable is what I have already splashed out on
Just my luck

£1100 for Luke and £850 for Chewie.

That sounds about right for these cards, they looked really good and I'm sure the winner is very happy to have them in their collection.

I won a couple of lots ,

Jabba the Hutt play set and after a long time looking eventually got a Jawa Sandcrawler .

I thought a lot of the lots went very high even compared to the last auction

Sounds like some great pick ups Steve, always thinking about that Sandcrawler, maybe one day.

This isn't an issue at all. It would matter if maybe 2 or 3 people were bidding but I remember from one of the earlier auctions that literally hundreds of people are bidding on this stuff. And also, it's not like the bids are artificial, cos if for some mad reason Stormcab did end up winning a load, he'd be prepared to buy them, he's just gambling that he doesn't end up with too many

Nah, I think if your bargain hunting that's fair enough. We are all competing against each other and there's not really anything you can do about it. It's really the only fair way. Everyone's hunting the same stuff and why should any one person have more of a right to buy something than another.

I don't agree with people buying items to sell specifically to other people, for example if that at at driver goes cheap and I pick it up specifically to tap you up for a profit.

It's all fair game in this sort of sale.

For an auction that people were thinking would go under the radar stuff made very good money. Some of the loose lots went at the top end but I think the AFA 85 Hammerhead on a 20 card went for mid £300s which is a complete bargain so there's still afew nice deals around.

Thanks to a friend at work watching what I was looking at, l am now the proud owner of a 12" OB1
Apparently he wanted to have a go at bidding whilst I was away.

I'm with you on this. I too put in a daft amount of bids but knowing full well that most would be shot down before dawn broke. Sure enough that happened with a load and with the vast majority I was 40-50% under the hammer. I was underbidder on 2 and won 2. I don't see an issue with it at all as every single bid I placed I would have been chuffed to bits to add the item to my collection.

(Un)fortunately, despite being on a course I was able to watch about half the lots go through and picked up some great items: Opened but unused Palitoy bi-logo AT-ST and all being well, a potentially joyous purchase a Palitoy Cantina in "good plus to excellent box" only missing the two circular yellow stands (which I have). Been after one for ages but prices have been daft and condition generally poor. This one looks cracking and even has the used sticker sheet with it. Also got the Palitoy Droid Factory but I have condition concerns about it and as I thought it would go for too much I didn't even get photos. Never mind, it'll be a good display piece for now. Got two boxes of mostly vintage sundry items like board games, super 8 films and puzzles, too. Can't wait for them :D

I agree there was some " cheap stuff " , however a lot of the run of the mill common stuff was high and the foreign cards were crazy money !
