Han Hoth see-sawed again - he seems to swing from £1k or so down to £600 or so and back again. This time it was £1.2k.

Han was the 30B which is a fair bit rarer than the A - edit - both were for sale, so the swing was there (sorry for the confusion)

Jesus H!! I am so glad I forgot to try & bid on anything today, I really want a death star, but I figured I would be mad as a march hare putting a 2k bid on one

I don't recognise this hobby anymore.

Does anyone think this is sustainable? This seems like an out of control bubble.

Even if it is a short term bout of insanity in the market it may leave a longer term mark on the market - people will be trying to flog their Palitoy moc for months to come saying 'one just like this sold at Vectis for x amount' - hopefully some sanity returns but I think it may be a while....

Looking at these prices I'm thinking that a lot of these bids might have come from investors rather than collectors.

I think the madness is here to stay and personally it will change the way I collect. Did anyone see Lee Grays link to 'this morning'? Phillip Schofield and Amanda Holden were talking about toy collecting as the big thing for investors on daytime TV!

I know it's all part of Vectis' PR but it's part of a bigger wheel gaining momentum and more and more speculators will be coming in. Even the Antiques Roadshow is featuring toys more often - Action Man and Star Wars in the last year, and it all helps build the hype

The sad thing is the only way I see the bubble bursting is for Ep 7 to be a massive flop, and none of us wants that

I seriously hope not Grant, hell I bought a graded palitoy PD 20 back 2 years or so back & figured I was insane paying 450 for it

I bought my PD where the bubble had fallen off naturally for £45 from Vectis last year.

i got a slave leia vintage comb off ebay for just over £10. Theres plenty of star wars stuff out there...

Agreed Grant. The hobby is turning into investment for many people, and id give anything to go back 20 years (whilst stopping in 97/98 to give Lucas a kick in the bollocks for Jar Jars inception) :D

Its such a sad state of affairs really, and thats not meant in a jealous way. I done my fair share of shelling out what i thought were big bucks years ago so understand to a point, but its spiralling out of control. Sadly, the collecting genre as we know it is disappearing and a worrying trend is surfacing.

I know one thing, unless something life changing happens my stuff stays with me, and for my son when im gone.

I was watching the auction and there was a floor bidder who was winning a hell of a lot, would love to know who it was, he (or she) seemed to be going for the high value stuff, it simply went mental today, it would be interesting to see how much Mr Carpenter has made from the auction, the action men stuff was still going last time I looked!!!

I thought I would have a good chance putting in a £1400 for the Greedo, who'd be a Palitoy collector eh!!!!

Unbelievable price on that Greedo but I think it being unpunched made it v desirable :!:

Star Wars is now very much mainstream, a cultural icon that's inspired millions and parodied everywhere - it used to be the sole realm of nerds and geeks. The new Disney incarnation is fuelling this drive for collectibles, especially vintage as it seems to hold it's value, and the Craig Stevens Fett, especially concerning Palitoy stuff.

Without the new film I doubt we'd be seeing any of this and I doubt it will slow down anytime soon.

Alot of the sealed Action man items sold for less than i imagined and will surely be up for sale for huge profits, especially a sealed box of 12 sealed mint soldiers for less than a grand, you could easily get £300 or more for just one of those sealed, even the pilots went for cheaper than i thought as did the sealed deep sea diver boxes still in their trade packing.

In all honesty if i hadnt spent so much recently i would have bid a lot more on those action man and still got a bargain

I don't recognise this hobby anymore either. People seem more concerned with grades and values now rather than having an actual appreciation of the toys and the films that spawned them.

I thought he AM was pretty reasonable Lee - no hype to fuel it. It's got cheaper by the year as the collectors age and sell up and the 40th collection caused a big crash and there's not a lot of younger collectors coming in.

Wish I'd bought some stuff too - the annual Quorn Action Man meet is in a weeks time. You should come - lots of bargains!

I've not seen another Greedo for sale in the last few years - is it the rarest 20 back?

I'm happy to be corrected, but I think a nice Power Droid is more difficult to find than a nice Greedo. So Power Droid rarest, and Greedo second. Did 80's_collector have a Greedo for sale recently? Can't remember now.

Interesting to see some instant flipping going on, not for SW but for AM. This guy seems to be the worst, but there are others:

Sales to date: 0

Pretty sure there will be more Palitoy Action Man to come. There was some duplication held back from what I could see.

A greedo sold on here a few weeks ago. I thought Powerdroid was rarer to be honest - but I guess the rarest is the one you need.

I disagree with the points above about the boxes and 'pictures' - they are part of the process and have a value to some people. Regardless they are much rarer than the figures - palitoy or not. Supply and demand.

I see on Facebook, one high grade collector purchased 3 or 4 of the 12bks for his mint run. As these high grade collectors fill their sets demand may even drop off. Until the next guy comes along.

Condition is becoming the main focus of collectors - even rare items are showcased with a photo of the grade before the photo of the item. This is the crazy thing to me. It's just bragging rights and pushes prices up for those of us who might be very happy with a c8 rather than c9.5, as a rising tide seems to lift all (star)ships.
