VC Jawa: is this how it is now?

IMO the single biggest contributor to rising prices is the "mail call" threads on Facebook. Here's how it works - Twat #1 posts something along the lines of "Mail call! Look what arrived today, it ONLY cost me $2000!" Then Twat #2 posts "Wow great piece, and awesome price!" Finally Twat #3 says "Congrats, what a score!" Note - Twat #2 or #3 is usually the seller, or somebody that recently paid a stupid price for one to make themselves feel better.

And the above happens every single day. It's depressing to watch.

It does feel like a bit of a circle jerk doesn't it?

My biggest hate is thanking people for the opportunity to buy collectable xyz. I mean - sometimes this is warranted, when you've prized something from a collection in order to complete a run, or worked hard to find something the owner would trade for, but generally you just paid a guy $xxx more than they paid 3 weeks ago. 'Got this from John, thanks for a smooth deal John' seems more than appropriate.

Actually, thinking about it - thanks so much to Sainsbury's for allowing me the honour of being able to purchase food from them and giving me the opportunity to increase their annual profits. I'm honoured to have been allowed work with them in our latest transaction.

I've said the same before on here too. I don't think anyone needs to be praised for being a dealer and especially not just because they packed your item well..shouldn't that be standard practice for someone that buys and sells toys? I can see the sellers laughing all the way to the bank when they get feedback like that "He just paid me twice the going rate for that figure AND he's telling everyone how great I am - I can't lose!"

 Spot on!

I dunno lads, its common courtesy to say thanks when you buy something, whether it's a pint of milk or an overpriced collectable.

Some of the public cock sucking on Facebook takes it too far though. I mean it's like some of them have been sold a new kidney.

A kidney would probably be cheaper than the prices some tards pay on FB.

But I agree, looking at so many of the horror story threads about poor packaging and general dickheadness from some sellers, I think saying something nice if they've packaged something really well is just common courtesy and probably encourages them to do it again next time. Just because everyone should do it doesn't mean that everyone does do it.

Saying thanks is common courtesy, but you can do that just fine in private. I always thank sellers when something I buy arrives, as I'm sure they like to know it's arrived safely too. But you don't need to do that on Facebook in public.

I'm not some monster who never says thank you, and just takes without appreciating!

My gripe is more with the sycophantic thanks - thanks for 'allowing' me to purchase being typical. It just reads really strangely, IMO.

However, I will admit that I'm a pretty stiff upper lip kind of person though, and this may very well simply be a case of two cultures being separated by a common language!

Oh I agree mate, that wasn't a dig at you.

Anybody fancy doing a social experiment on Facebook? I'll post up a MOC Klaatu photo in the main Star Wars group. "Mail call, big thanks to XXX for this steal, only £250!" and then a few of you comment "great score!" etc. See if we can artificially inflate the price of him too!

I'd be up for this, but I'm funny about security on Facebook. Like to keep a low profile. PM me if you need help, if not then just post me the link when the fun starts. :)

Count me in too Edd - can't stand anyoen on FB fawning just because someone has ripped them off

Edit - but I do always thank people in private when a purchase arrives :)

Another bugbear is the 'silent seller' or 'silent buyer' - how much effort does it take to say 'thanks got the money today parcel is in the post' or 'no thanks that price is too high for me'

Apologies for going OT and rant over :)

Aint that just the shitty social media society we live in today, like posting on FB i'm going for a ****, then having me dinner, i mean wtf, its all about the attention seeking and in my opinion the same goes with buyers and sellers.

Say it's graded straight 85s with no y but pick a moc with a yellow bubble. Put it in acrylic for the photo.

Might be able to help you with a photo if you want.

If this carries on then that's nickiow s pension sorted!

Haha if only!

Pricess are absurd though. Have people been stock piling stuff hoping to make a killing after the new movie? Doesn't seem to be as much about for sale compared to 2 years ago - making everything seem rarer.

it baffles me who would pay these prices but someone is obviously buying :? Do you guys think these are people new to collecting vintage who have never known anything else pricewise? Like some others have said, I too can remember these back in the day going for a fraction of what they are now. Same could be said for all these desirable pieces, but it's having seen values creep up that prices me out, not the actual current value. If that makes sense.
