well..bloody..done!!! :) i stand corrected, i just cant believe how people think about this when they buy them!!

buy beaters and get U grading i say :)

I think this is barbarism.

People nee to stop paying stupid bloody prices for u grades, i mean what friggin difference does it make!!

a beater ROTJ death star droid moc with a 90 mint figure goes for £30

yet an AFA u90 sells for £350.....what the fook is that all about

I agree it has a big effect on people wanting to put a beater set together but there are loads of AFA loose collectors out there now and they all want the U90 graded ones. I did own an almost complete set of U90's but let them go when I started gettin serious offers. I guess they would rather have that than a bubble that may eventually turn yellow or fall off. I have also noticed a trend of people condensing their collections, to have a smaller top quality collection.

It is extremely diffcult to get a U90 grade on so many figures and that pushes the price up. I don't know if I will ever see another U90 vc jawa for sale.......

Now get a U95 on almost any figure and you can retire!

My new loose collection focus isn't as easy as i thought  Looking for loose C9+ on ebay is more time consuming than collecting moc lol.

Don't be so quick to despair Jay. It'll take time but you'll get there. 8)

I agree totally!
Don't get me wrong, I can totally understand why sellers do it (and I don't begrudge them doing it). Why flog a beater for £20-£30 when you can get it U graded and get 4 or 5 times the price!? It's just a shame, as so many MOC's are being destroyed, I guess it means those that are left become more valuable, but it's still a shame that something that's survived 30 odd years gets destroyed so easily.

i really dont see the point in u grades and i dont understand the stupid value increase, like you said why remove something from its card when its survived that long, i could send the small head han off for u grading and make a bit more ££ but im not going to do it cos i cant be arsed.

but if people pay big money for u grades then collectors will snap up beaters and rough cards to make money so they can afford their more expensive star wars items.

I agree, I don't get the supposed added benefit of a "U" grade to an ordinary loose figure. But, if that's what people wanna do with their figures then fair play to them.
I just think it's a shame.

Soon there wont be many beaters left its a shame. All for a stupid U grade. I would rather keep the beater. For the picture of the character from the film

Ron, I had about 90 with some variations at one time. I understand people not liking the U grade much but there is something about owning a figure that no one has played with before.......maybe its just sad but for me it was all about the figure and not really the packaging when I was young. And in my opinion they display really well. Have you seen the creatures that have been loose uncirculated graded, limelighted in the AFA section on rebelscum? Now this is gettin serious

Heres the link for anyone thats interested.......(it is okay to post links here isn't it?)

I did think about it my self at 1 point. But then relised how much it would cost. These U grades are going for serious money on ebay. Even hunting out cheap beaters to send off to AFA. Takes a lot off TIME and money to do

The problem is I found that only 10-20% of figures you submit will get the 90 grade, making it hard to get a set together. I bought most of mine graded when prices were cheap but now most have skyrocketed.

If anyone asked me, I would say put a set of u85's together if you wanted loose uncirculated, much cheaper and just as good. Very little difference between 85 and 90 IMO.

Your right there JIm about people condensing there collection, to have smaller top quality stuff.

I have done just that. Sold off all my AFA,ESB,ROTJ,POTF,MOC,MISB. I know a lot of other collectors who. Have done the same

Just keeping SW only. I am now more happier with the collection i have. I have a nice collection not to big to display

Cheers for the link Jim, I hadn't seen that thread
Am I alone in thinking they look ****!?
I quite like MOC's and Vehicles etc graded/encased (or at least in a slidding case) but I think the loose animals/beast look terrible! :?

shits a bit harsh :D but yeah i dont like them in huge ugly cases at all, they would look much better loose in a cabinet set up as a scene from the movie.

each to their own though, but i think it would annoy me in those cases, i still like to get toys out and touch them....yeah ok i mean play with them again and make the blaster noises.

I hope they're not going to U grade vehicles. There aren't that many sealed around already. AFA qualified is a step in a really bad direction IMO.
