to clarify the 15th auction is the toy shop find

So what's "the Palitoy auction" on the 27th May?
Any hints for what might be available then?

Thanks
Marc

Presumably the 27th is the Palitoy rep sale (as it's exclusively Palitoy), wheras the Toy Shop is various brands. We don't know what's on this sale, other than the Palitoy case and the Death Stars.

I think the Toy Shop sale is going to span several auctions because there's such a lot of stock, so we're seeing some of it on the 15th, much more on the 30th, and maybe more on later auctions.

It's all very confusing and very bad for bank accounts :p

The estimate on the 3xrotj mocs @40-60£. I wish!what are the chances if me getting one of those bundles for less than £100 :|

I actually think the estimates are very sensible, when you take in to account fees and postage that's nearer £100, and £30ish each for common ROTJ MOCs is (or should be) about right. It also doesn't immediately scare people off.

I think the fact that Vectis have to offload somewhere close to 1,000 ROTJ MOC's means that if you're prepared to be patient, you'll definitely see some lots going for less than £100.

Those toy shop headers are very fancy and can see them going for mega bucks, especially the Hoth one. There's two items I've got my heart set on but may have a few cheeky bids, got the feeling the next auction will be the big one.
Lots of Lograys available if that's your thing!!

Can you bid now or does it have be the actual day?

I placed a few non Star Wars bids on their last auction in advance and was told that I was out bid immediately. It does work placing early bids but then becomes almost like ebay really quickly and you could get into a bidding war well in advance of the auction day.

I'm not sure that I'd feel completely happy with bidding on the day due to problems they've had with their site (which others have mentioned in the past) and if there was anyway to actually go there I think that would be my preferred option every time. I know it's just not practical for most of us so I guess we'll have to settle for hoping things work smoothly on the day for bidding, do it over the phone (not so sure about that option either), or just stick your maximum bid on in advance and be prepared to loose it if there's a lot of interest in that item.

Best of luck with it though and hope to see lots of new purchases up here on the latest acquisition in the future. :D

Yeah I was wondering what the online live auctions were like, will still try and I did contemplate going to the actual auction but at over £75 on the train that could be a MOC or two! (dreams)....

I've used the live auction site before and it's been fine for me but I know (on here) a lot of people do have issues with it.

It's a very good collection - does anyone know this Mark Jackson? Or is he yet another 'unknown' collector? There must be loads out there!

I've put a couple of proxy bids in as I'll be away on the 15th. I did that on the last one and whilst it is convenient it's really easy to be outbid and lose something for not much more than you'd willingly go up to.

I won my last lot with an advance bid - place the bid and forget about it is my advice.

But I still watched the auction live online

I've already been outbid a few times this time, but I'm being pretty good at sticking to one price

pardon my ignorance boys

if a item is estimate @ £40
i proxy bid? my maximum bid of say £80
does the auction start @ £40 or straight in @ my bid of £80

Start at £40 :)

I went to the toy fair at Donnington yesterday and had a nice long chat with John from Vectis about their upcoming sales. They knew about this thread and there has been alot of misinformation and speculation that wasn't quite correct, (some from me ). They do seem quite open about letting us know what is coming up though. He wanted to point out that where possible they have taken detailed pictures of the contents of the boxes from Beech's before they were separated for sale. Alot of them aren't in great shape but more about that below. Now John is the Action Man guy so I had my mits on the Judo outfit which is in amazing condition and he showed me more Action Man rarities, but Star Wars his not his main field of expertise.
So here's what I know if I have understood correctly:
There is another auction coming up featuring Beech's toy shop on the 30th April that will have a lot more from the closed shop. I think there will again be more Star Wars stuff but it will be at the lower end of the condition scale and will be more "dealer friendly" ie larger groups of lower quality common figures along with a real mixed bag of general toys from all eras. He said they had only got through a few pallets and there were stuff they hadn't even looked at yet. He did say there are Star Wars ships and vehicles to come from the toy shop, he mentioned a Falcon and Snowspeeders. There are also a load of trilogos in there as well. Some of the Jedi stuff from Beech's is in really poor condition.
It looks like Beech's shop will occupy them for months to come. I asked if Vectis had bought up the stock, but they said they hadn't and don't do that so there is never a conflict of interest. The only ever auction on others behalf.
The Palitoy sale will be the month after featuring the stuff we know about but some unusual stuff we don't. There will be a lot of Action Man and Pippa stuff. He also said as well as the rep there are two Palitoy designers who have also offered up a lot of stuff, including a rare prototype, before you get too excited though it's connected to Action Force. There are carded star wars figures from the rep, but I get the impression they certainly aren't all 12 backs. There may be some diecast in there too.

Where Vectis have a bit of an issue at the minute is the quantity that is coming in, they are being inundated with stuff on the back of Craig's publicity and having to accept it all so they sellers don't go elsewhere. Reading between the lines they are sitting on stuff with many multiples of the same figure. I suppose there is almost a moral question concerned with both sellers and buyers. Buyers could be paying huge prices only for the same supposedly rare items to be turning up every month, so do they let the market lower by listing more at once and obviously lower the price for the seller?? I think the market is artificially high at the minute and with the quantity they are talking about it inevitably will lower.

At the end of the day, it looks like a lot of our collections will be expanding in the coming months.

That's really interesting Andy - thanks.

A similar thing happened in the art world recently when a large collection of Banksy prints went to auction. The got record prices, and subsequently lots more have appeared on the market as people seek to 'cash in their chips'. Prices didn't cool, but new sellers saw the auction results as their accepted sale price (within reason). The big difference of course is that we knew there were XXX of a certain print made and the majority would be saved in good condition; we dont know that for SW.

Anyway, rambling aside - I suspect people will hold off going crazy bidding and will simply hope another example is auctioned later in the year. Of course, all of the publicity may increase Vectis' presence and the number of bidders may increase - balancing the increased supply.
