Strangely considering my point of view on U grades, I don't mind items coming from sealed shipping cartons.
The purist in me appreciates the rarity of a sealed case, that is indeed a site to behold ! However the toys inside are what we collect, not the shipping packaging which is essentially just a 30 year old brown box (Must put emphasis on the fact that although its something neat, the shipping packaging is not part of the toy itself in my eyes just like a storage box for us now is not part of our collection) and with it sealed there is no way to actually enjoy the toys inside, or even check whats in there (could be something very rare if you don't have the contents list/invoice.
I sat on the fence for a while on this but I think if I had to choose between U grading from sealed cases or actually destroying the toys packaging as most U grades do then I choose this.
Opening a sealed case for resale would also benefit more than just 1 or 2 collectors as typically a case holds a great deal of figures.
One scenario I went through in my head some time back was -
A:
A sealed case is found and winds up with a purist who refuses to open it, he keeps it sealed in a spare room.
The house suffers from flood damage and the box and contents are ruined at the same time.
B:
A sealed case is found and goes to someone who decides to open, inspect and catalog the contents, he also intends to sell a portion of the items himself
He also has a flood and the box and a few that he kept for himself are ruined.
At least the second way some of those items survived and went into deserving collections.
