Trading alcohol for figures!

Sorry to hear you had problems with your consultants, I'm a structural engineer but i can promise you some of us put our clients first!
I had 3 plots last year fall through so fingers crossed for 2015.

Our structural engineer was actually pretty cool :)

Planning officer on the other hand
It took us 2 years to get planning permission. Got flat refused first time without them giving us a chance to amend the application as they should. I had met with the planning officer and shown her the plans and she had suggested we make the new additions more modern to create an obvious division between old and new(which we wanted anyway). We submitted the plans and another officer picked up the case. She had a different take on the term 'sympathetic to original structure' and wanted any new additions to blend in with the old. The first we new of it was when I logged onto the website and saw we'd been refused!
Second time we bent over backwards and got it through after dealing with Bats and Great Crested Newts

Hope you find a plot soon. I'm sure the whole process will be a breeze for someone already in the business :)

Splendid build on the barn Jimi, and love the figure line-up. Looks awesome!

Similar to yourself cutting back on booze and wisely spending some of the savings on toys, my New Year resolution was to smoke less. Costs a bloody fortune, been smoking 20-30 high tar fags for 25 years, so long overdue to cut down. Not claiming I'm going to quit but had 6 cigs yesterday - I'm now finding it's an enjoyable pleasure rather than just hard addiction.

Here's to a healthier year and to expanding our collections! :)

Welcome aboard Jimi... :D

Ditching alcohol for Vintage Star Wars is a stella idea mate

All the best and hope it goes well, looking forward to seeing the collection grow.

So then.... bit of good news and bad news today as well as a slightly off topic acquisition.

First the bad news. eBay
At the start of December I was looking at a few figures from a seller, he had a few I needed plus some figures with weapons that I needed to complete my figures. Postage was £3.50 which I thought was a bit steep. Sent him a message about combining postage and he said it would be fine. Placed a bid on a complete Paploo and won him for £10.50 :D Decided to bid on some other bits, lost out on some but won an Emperor for £2.77 (needed his cane). Ebay wouldn't let me combine postage so I dropped him a message. He said he doesn't do combined postage. I sent him a screen grab of his message saying it would be fine and asked him to honour his previous message. I then got this in return:

'Sorry you feel that way..there are 3 of you that are saying the same thing and you have the same thing in common..you all are experienced ebayers with high feedback scores, you all spotted an opportunity to bend the rules in your favour, you all asked the same question regarding combined postage and you all got the same reply..unfortunately you all have a major thing in common to and that is your all GREEDY and realising my feedback score you all thought I was a newbie..all 3 of you aren't getting refunds, all 3 of you will receive the items as described and all 3 have tried to pull out..all 3 of you know the rules and regs so you I'm well within my rights..let this a little lesson to you all..GREED doesn't always pay..and if you don't adhere to ebay rules all 3 will be getting terrible feedback as you all deserve it. Enjoy the figures as they are well worth what you paid and will appreciate.'

I hadn't asked for a refund or to pull out. I didn't want to lose my bargain Paploo
I paid for both figures plus separate postage, came to £20.27, still a bargain :)

Guess what.... no figures.... no replies to messages! B#'@*x

I've just received a refund from eBay so now have £20.27 in my PayPal to put towards my £10 per week :D but also no Paploo :(

New acquisition. Not part of the £10 per week as I traded some spare incomplete figures for it. Also not figure related but I had to have it :D

Drawn by a lovely chap called Barry Jones. He posts on the Echobase facebook group and also has a Facebook page called Darth Doodles. He does amazing drawings of vintage figures but this drawing is from his student days.

Really LOVE her, can't wait tot get her framed :)

So, as I mentioned before, I do have a tendency to waffle  sorry!

Jimi

Hi Jimi.

That looks fantastic mate! 8)

Really looking forward to watching it grow.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience on Ebay. Had several similar dealings myself. It is very infuriating. Name and shame him.

Thanks for all the replies chaps.

The only problem with the display is the dusting. Not had to do it yet and we've been in 6 weeks but it will happen. Part of the deal with the wife was I could keep them there as long as I dusted them!

Another problem is I'm going to run out of room to do one straight line. I've tried staggering them but it's doesn't look as good. Probably going to put First 12 & Last 17 on the shelf on the opposite side of the room along with creatures! One step at a time though

£10 isn't much and won't get me far with Last 17 but bargains are out there if you put the time in.

That's a great way of displaying them - it would make me a bit OCD about what order they should go in, but that's just me :P

The house looks great as well. Make sure you're careful when you're dusting over the edge. You don't want to give your wife an excuse to push you off while you're doing it to claim the life insurance.

Bit early in the week to be spending my £10 but I saw this on eBay and I'd thought I'd take a gamble. Got him for £10 inc P&P. Tough one to judge condition by photos but pretty pleased. Not perfect but no touch ups on the black paint (that I can tell) and pretty good chrome. Looks great (lovely & shiny) on display so I'm happy :D

Better make sure I don't drink for the rest of the week

Finding it dead easy actually. I'm still going to drink if we have friends round or if we go out but as we've done neither of these its been nearly 2 weeks since a drop passed my lips! The joys of having 2 small kids and no social life :(

This is going well.... not
Remember that £10 per week budget I gave myself?
Well let's just say I've just done a deal that puts me in debt until March :( but fingers crossed I'm pretty pleased with what I've got. I'll post photos when they arrive 8)
No pointless drinking until March? No probs. Then hit it big time at Echobase 2 and put myself back in debt for months :D

So this is what £10 got me this week (and a few more weeks  )

Luke is missing blaster (that'll be fun finding) and Yak has a dodgy right hand but overall they are great. Luke's legs are whiter in real life. They'll definitely do for my collection. Well happy :D

No spending or drinking at home until March now!

Jimi

congratulations with the new figures. So how many weeks did it take to get the luke and yak face figure ?

Well I've bent my own rules slightly and have bought them before saving the money :P
They were only 9 1/2 weeks worth of not drinking  With current prices I'm quite happy with them. I watched a loose EV-9D9 go for £122 on eBay at the weekend. Silly prices for Last 17 at the mo.

Wow that was a fantastic price  so no star wars for you the next 9½ week ? or will you still bend the rules ?

I'm going down this road for Febuary. Going t-total for the month and gonna treat myself to a nice MOC in March.

Chose Febuary as their is only 28 days. :?

Pomes, got a feeling I may end up bending the rules a little  I had £30 in my PayPal so it's only 6 1/2 weeks! I can handle no alcohol (at home) for that long no problem, realistically that long without buying any figures isn't going to happen is it!!

Theforceuk, do it mate. I'm finding it dead easy but I am pretty determined/stubborn! Have you got a particular MOC in mind? Good call on doing it in Feb

Yeah I'm pretty stubborn to when I set a target like that will stick to it. :?

I did it in my early twenties for 2 months which was hard. I've got a mate who did it for a month and hasn't had a drink for 4 years! Every time I see him I tell him he needs to loosen up.

I'm after 20 backs at the moment so hopefully one of them, also need 77 back emperor to complete that run, but have to see what comes up.

Hope you've got the beers in for tomorrow & Sat night. Big blow out before a dry month

I've still not had a drink but unfortunately I've also not stopped buying loose figures

Got these off a bloke on a Facebook page. Trying to sell his childhood collection he found in his loft. God he was hard work! Clueless about pretty much everything but his heart was in the right place.

Shocking photo and they obviously got dressed in the dark but from that mess came this beauty!

Minty mint mint! The others are pretty nice too. Also bought some more figures basically for the weapons but ended up upgrading a couple from my collection.

Here's my complete set of Ewoks now. Moved them to a new home to free up some space on my long line of figs.

Nice Ewoks, Facehack seems to be the place at the moment.

Don't worry I'm on the wine tonight, need something stronger than beer if I'm going cold turkey for 1 month.

Your loose run is looking nice, is that room their in just for Star Wars stuff?

Good luck with the cold turkey!

It's just a hallway really but with voids either side. Bit like a bridge! Leads from the top of the stairs to the bathroom & our bedroom. My wife says I'm not allowed to take over the whole house and they can't spread. Once I've done the loose run and then the creatures (jabs, rancor etc) I'll put them on the shelf on the opposite side as well. Spread them out over the 2 sides. She won't be able to reach them so not a lot she can do about it

Thought I would give you an update. I diden't start my no drinking until the 10 Febuary as it was my Dads birthday on the 9th. :? Anyway I'm feeling really good and got till a week on Friday. Not counting down the day's or anything.

Problem is the prices of a nice MOC that I had in mind I need to stop drinking for about a year.
