So this can only apply to modern collecting, but since there are a few of us and we do seem to buy a fair bit of modern I figured I'd have a go at this (might be an epic fail).

But, what do you all think the best SW toy of the year is. Given the spread of vendors and breadth of their ranges I'm going to focus on three area, only toys that shipped in 2024 and then whittle my top 3 down to just 1, maybe enough folks will pile in we might even get a vote sort of thing going :).

Hasbro three and three quarter
this one is tough, mostly because there was a lot of rubbish and repacks and so on, but there were a few standouts for me. First off I'll mention the Ghost, because you just can't ignore it - it is a beast and the detailing is amazing and the figures cracking, but, and its a big but it is just too much, it's too big to display and the price was eye watering. It may well be as close to perfect as a model, but its lack of practicality count against it. Likewise it is worth mentioning The Vintage Collection Jabba, it is great, really ticked the boxes and connected back to the original - a much needed update and a cracking toy.

The Escape From Order 66 4-Pack (Ahsoka and the droids) is a great set and it was a close call, but for me (because I really do love EP1) The Retro Collection Episode 1 Box-Set is the winner (The Darth Maul alone is a cracker)

Hasbro Black series
You might see a theme here at the end, but there were some good figures in this range. The Ashoka line I think was strong, but for me it came down to the Darth Maul & Sith Speeder or the Battle Droid with STAP (both exclusives) - I'd love to call it a draw - but that's not going to work, so I am going for Darth Maul & Sith Speeder, just so cool and amazing to see the retro EP1 box designs as well. (That's two for Darth Maul so far...)

Lego
In many ways for me Lego outdoes Hasbro these days and 2024 was another big year (a 25th anniversary year...) with some great sets. The Trade Federation Troop Carrier (GWP set) is a cracker. The various midi-scale ships and dioramas (love the Pod Racing scene) were all excellent, Jedi Bob's return and the Dark Falcon all showed fun and innovation, but there can really be only one winner here, the perfect addition to the Desert Skiff and Sarlacc, it is of course 75397: Jabba's Sail Barge, yes it is big and expensive, but not disproportionately so within Lego's range (unlike the Ghost).

So, not to boil 3 down to 1

For me in the end it came down to simple Wow factor and on that front I think Lego Jabba's Sail Barge is the best SW toy of 2024

What do you folks think?

This will be easy for me this year as I only bought 2 modern pieces in 2024.

Hasbro 3 3/4
VC R2D2 on ANH card - at last the clean version we all wanted. The terrible "weathering" on previous version ruined it for me so delighted the wised up (or cashed in with easy repack)
Nice figure, beautiful card and as an added bonus it's Wave 52 and I got him for Birthday (52)
Surprised I didn't pick up the Retro R2 but I have niggles with that line especially compared to the excellent retro Marvel Spider-Man equivalent figures.

Lego
R2-D2
Wasn't 100% sold on previous larger version but this one is great. Looks good, very enjoyable build and just the right size and price point.

Picking my fave between the two? I'll always have a soft spot for carded OT 3 3/4 figures. They hit all the right member berries but going forward I'm pretty sure my modern purchases will be 99% Lego. Yep Lego R2 for my 2024 favourite even though I haven't finished his dome yet (y)

Toy of the year goes too….

Lego Jabba's sail barge, it's just everything you would expect from the brand, including the price.🙄

I don't want to subvert my own thread - but I think Lego smashed Star Wars this year - so many great sets to pick from and next year they are roumored to be be going mega big with the first ever $1k set (Death Star 2....)

Anyway - keep the suggestions coming - if we get enough lets see if we can set up a vote :)

Toy of the year in The Vintage Collection has to go to Jabba, absolutely love this and really nails the nostalgia feel to the box and toy.

On a side note my Ghost turned up today...Sweet Jesus, where the hell im i storing this!!🤣
