hi fellas
had a scan but could not see anything here or google,
but im sure with so many collectors on here with long term collections that some tips could be given?????

ive always presumed that high or low heat from bulbs (even little 10-20 watt ones which accumalate heat) trapped inside in glass displays over time wasnt a good thing? especially for the top shelf of goods nearest the light especially in those ikea cabinets which have very hot lights close above, neither was the age old classic of hanging your vtg moc in star cases or placing things on selves at the tops of walls in rooms as thats where most prolonged heat or cold is inturn causing yellowing and brittle bubbles etc ; recently i noticed a few items ive had higher up that have yellowed when nothing else has and ive had many star cases that were higher up go yellow too :x ,
i no longer use bulbs in my displays and i point light in from the outside so its not trapped within dont know if this is overkill or not ?
i also found that anything i displayed which had any type of light or very light odour could effect items around it also ,for example i had the 1977 r2 and 3po cliro boxed soaps allthough both were sealed you could still smell them a little and before i sold them i noticed that the items directly either side of these boxes were a little yellowed which werent before, and i had about a dozen scented rubbers and the loose figs closest to those went yellow aswel over about 2 years
dunno if theres any real truth in this but ive heard others say that badly yellowed items trapped with other non yellowed items can also spread especially if its air tight and the items are touching ? which i didnt believe until last month when i unpacked a very yellowed loose PDT-8 which was yellow previous to packing away that i had just randomly sat on top of an loose clean snowspeeder which was minty clean looking before hand which ended up with a yellow area only where the pdt8 was sat on it and no where else on it .so theres some truth in the spread thing anyone else encountered this i dont know if it was just strange coincidence ?
and last summer i packed away some modern moc to keep for presents for younger members of my family they were kept in a box in a dry clean cool room pretty much in darkness for 6 months and all the bubbles went mustard ? and they were all from dfrnt ranges and years and were clear beforehand ,it was actually the first time i had seem modern moc go yellow .
ive been doing a test since early december one VERY yellow stormtrooper in between 2 pure white gonna leave them for a year or so to see if it spreads so i know for sure,
and i always wandered if theres any good in letting cased or airtightish things breath a little now and again incase theres is some sort of build up inside causing slow but sure damage.
anyone else found anything like the above or noticed or learned anything with time or have tips on storage mostly for vtg moc

One thing I've always done is stored MOCs laying down on their backs. Not ideal for display, but it certainly minimizes the risk of bubbles cracking and lifting.

Basically don't store your collection like mine - in the attic. You need a stable environment, which most houses have. Attics are cold/hot/cold/hot. Not best but all I have

oh yeh ....except for Jason Joiners. His seems to be in the attic but he seems to have quite a large posh house, so not like my freezing 1970's semi. Beauty of the attic though is that it's dark. Light is not the friend of vintage collectibles :|

Be able to look at your collection. Enjoy it, enjoy sharing it with others.
Don't hide it all away, what's the point?

purchase quality products to display and protect your collectables.

Like Acrylic over Star cases (But star cases for posting), plasticized proof paper for your paper products. LED lighting for cabinets.

Its good for display and piece of mind.

yeah i see the benefit in that .but 90% figures arent that heavy ,i would not have thought that an issue to worry bout with most unless bubble were fragile of course

that goes without saying , and anyone that comes into mines loves to see it i couldnt dream of hiding it away , would be like shoving yer misses in a cupboard and locking the door youd like to for a few reasons but you cant
