Hi guys ,

I have posted a while back about buying a 12 back sand people described as moc , a beauty , would grade high, a load of bollocks , I had to go to and from the seller and getting pissed off and then contacting eBay several times to organise a return . So the guy agreed the return , but would not pay for return postage , I raised it on eBay , they confirmed to me that he must pay for return postage , he then would not , I had to wait 7 days to then escalate the case , for to be told by the resolution centre that I had to pay the return postage as they would not cover the international postage , I told him it doesn't say that anywhere , he then give the old shite sorry but !

The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing , I am going to have to wait another 3 weeks to get my money back .

I am going to stop using eBay as soon as this gets resolved

The only light at the end of the tunnel is I got a AFA 80 graded sand people for the same money I bought from this guy , thanks Dennis and Jeff

This is one of the reason's AFA/UKG works for a lot of people as it's a standard that everyone know's what their getting, tailer made for ebay I spose. :roll:

Ebay is a pain tho have to agree and glad you got a nice Sand People.

Yeah return shipping is almost always paid by the buyer, but it sounds your gonna get your initial amount refunded soon.

I'm slightly confused. I thought the buyer always paid return postage? Otherwise you'd get loads of plonkers buying just to have a look at something they may/may not buy in the end and then they send it back at no cost to themselves. At least if they have to pay postage then it stops them doing that.

The reason the seller should have paid for the postage , was because it was not as described , it was described as mint , a real beauty , would grade high in reality it was not sealed , cracked bubble and crushed at the top . If the buyer just decides there don't want it , they pay for it

Actually that's one thing I really don't agree with, and one of the main reasons I don't like grading. Two trilogo examples below, a UKG 80 and an AFA 80. They should be about the same right? No, one of them looks case fresh, the other has hanger/edge wear, a price sticker, and a ****ed bubble. I would have given the UKG one 90, and the AFA one 70 at best, if not lower (how the hell did that bubble get 80? more like a 50 or 60.) I know UKG are known for being a bit more harsh, but these two examples are ridiculous right?

Sorry but there is no consistency to grading at all, it's nonsense.

The only thing I like about grading ( apart from toy Toni ) is the fact it can highlight sealed moc's . I bought a R2D2 12 back and thought it was a beauty to find out it had been reglued at a corner . And I personally like the way they display

That Stormie is a very harsh 80! I agree with you Edd, definitely closer to a 90. Though, i'd like to see more pictures.

Sorry I didn't mean to come across as insinuating that UKG and AFA have the same grading standard, I don't think either company claim that UKG have a grade of 65 for a start and AFA go from 60 to 70. They might as well be called the same as each other if that was the case. That's the whole point of having one company grade something so it sets a universal standard that everyone can use as a guide, rather than Joe Bloggs saying this is that and that is this.

I personally buy graded stuff for this reason, I've spent time reading about AFA and understand what certain grades mean as a standard, if you buy a MOC with a grade of 80 it's not going to have any major flaws but if I choose one with a grade of 60 I know it's going to be far from perfect and take that into consideration before buying. I also like the sub grades, for example I don't mind the card getting a low grade as long as the bubble is nice and mint depending on how rare the item is.

Most of my MOC collection is graded and I have to say the general grading standard is consistant as long as you understand how they interpret certain flaws, like card tares, bubble cracks and POP's removed. I'm not saying their absalutely perfect, human error occurs often. The main reason being that AFA have become to big to manage all their submissions, hence why you wait 3 months for items to be returned. :roll:
