i think the post limit would be fine, most people register, dont read the rules and list their shite, so we just delete it and send them an automated warning to introduce themselves and show their collection

I think posting boobies would be the most professional way to tell them they are being tits...

Talking about boobies....

I also think there should be a loophole.....New members should be allowed to list their items for sale as long as their naked Wife/Girlfriend is in the photo holding the items they are wanting to sell

il second that

Weasel I was also thinking about setting up a poll yesterday evening. I started it but then thought I should confer with the other mods first. Then I started an email to them, but it was late so I reckoned I couldn't be arsed and someone else would do a poll. And here you are.

The way we do it now as I see it:

1. (Automated) Spammers --> Instant ban
2. Serious ebay sellers who spam their ebay links but don't participate otherwise --> unclear
3. Serious non ebay sellers who don't participate otherwise --> unclear
4. Sellers who've unearthed their collections from the attic and think they're sitting on a gold mine (these people often ask for valuations first) --> (very) light to heavy abuse depending on their behaviour, resulting in letting them sell or possible ban
5. Serious sellers who act friendly even if they don't do much but sell --> No problem
6. Sellers who participate in the forum --> No problem
7. Scammers --> Ban and general abuse when found out.
8. First time sellers who have something gooooooooood to sell (often after valuation requests) and don't paticipate otherwise --> unclear

1, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are fine by me.

So the only thing I think we should do is develop a policy for categories 2, 3, and 8.

I for one don't mind categories 2 and 3 that much, but they must be policed a bit into behaving well (like putting all links in one thread). I have no problems at all doing that.

Category 8 should really be the same as category 4.

BTW Weasel I've deleted some random posts and pictures from your FS-thread to help facilitate deleting the thread in the future (as it's so ****ing big). I trust you don't mind?

I think a mix of options 3 & 4 would be the way to go. Most of the other forums I use forbid you from selling until you have made a minimum number of posts and on some of them you have to actively contribute to the forum and not just post illiterate bullshit before you are allowed to sell.
However, I am all for boobies and naked wife/girlfriend pictures :D :D

I think we're losing the spirit of the star wars forum here lads.

It's always been anything goes and if someone turns up just to peddle stuff they get abused and either piss off or join the forum properly

posts like this seem a bit RS-light...

I have to say that I agree with Spoons - this is a well run and pretty much self moderating forum and those that don't like it do seem to get told to **** off pretty quickly.

I have to say that the seller(s) that annoys me the most is actually the one with the really nice stuff that comes on here just to point at his ebay sales - I would love to know more about his collection and how he got it. I know that another seller has pissed Ron and Pete off with his attitude (and obviously things he has done in the past) but I think it has been made pretty clear what people think about him

I actually like those that come on here with their attic finds - sometimes some good stuff pops up on here that otherwise would either get dumped onto ebay or worse still dumped in the bin

Anyway thats my two cents

Iain

Genuine attic finds would not come on here and post a for sale thread. They most likely would seek valuation as we've seen many many times. Altho they are often funny and deluded, they don't annoy me. I, like you, quite enjoy seeing what people have unearthed and why shouldn't they seek help in finding out what they have.

I think what we're talking about here is installing a system that keeps a little decorum on the forum. Catchy.
Some days it's a little like a hotmail inbox with the junk filter turned off and i've now got to the point where i don't actually open up the "ebay listings" thread and i am always hesitant to open the "for sale" thread as 9 times out of 10 it's not a "proper" in forum sale just links or tat or whatever. I think it's a shame is all and would prefer it if selling here was more of a privilege earned. I think that's a gentle rule that that actually works towards creating a more positive environment. Not a more hostile one. Unlike hurling abuse at all and sundry, which, altho funny, can sometimes that can be misdirected.

I'm not talking about making the forum as a whole elitist, snobby or cold shoulder-ish. I'd hate that. Everything else is a free for all.

I think the only reason not to install some sort of system is if the majority of members enjoy first time/one time sale posts. Cos it's not gonna frighten off any genuine new members, just time wasters.

An after thought: One trend i have noticed is those members who do only come on here to sell (either once or a few times) tend to be pricks. A seller recently came on and posted a sale which i was foolish enough to PM about, wanting 1 or 2 of his figures he was flogging. A few other members did the same. A week went by and i sent a couple of follow up messages but was again ignored. Turned out a couple of other members had the same treatment. Maybe he'd been killed... no such luck. Turned out he had replied to 1 or 2 members and completed sales and altho other members had enquired first, they were ignored. The followed rants by me, one other member joined in... etc etc
I just don't think this sort of thing would go on if the seller was an actual forum member with some history and some pre(to sale)-dialogue etc.

you've obviously never tried buying anything on RS

Yeah sometimes but not often. RS is a whole different kettle of fish cos they have so many members over there. Here we have a much more manageable situation.

true - but I've had my issues with regulars here too, sometimes people just get caught up in life :)
