I honestly think too many people would genuinely miss hurling abuse at the one post wonders and spammers if the policy was to be revised too heavily.

Its good to vent!

Personally, I think there's nothing wrong with it. It works if you use caution. That's the price you pay for a free market - buyer beware. We'll all help each other as much as we can, but occasionally you might get stiffed. The alternative is that I charge people to sell stuff like some forums do, or have some kind of requirement such as post count/time on forum etc, both of which will reduce the amount of stuff for sale.

As for not liking new posters - I think it's a bit harsh of people to pounce on them to be honest. I'm sure nobody would complain if a Newbie came on here selling 12 backs for a tenner each. We were all new and didn't know the rules/customs once, give them a break!

Haha - it can work. I go on a car forum where you have to pay £10 a year 'membership' to be able to sell cars or parts. It works so much as they get no time wasters and very few scammers, but I bet they would get a lot more stuff for sale (mainly parts) if people didn't have to pay.

I agree with Spoons.

You'll get the sellers who join the forum to sell modern stuff, they soon realise there is no market here.

Loft finds or childhood collections where they think they may have just unearthed a pension pot.
There can be some nice stuff in these FS threads, doesn't happen often but they do come up.

Then there's the sellers who only come on here to sell and these can also bring up some beauties.

We had a new guy on here a few years ago who sold me some Brazilian bootlegs and this led onto some boxed Glasslite items.
After some caution with first dealing with him it all went smoothly.

The member currently selling off his collection with ebay links has some amazing stuff for sale, not sure if anyone has bought anything from him, but I've enjoyed
looking at his stuff and watching the sales on the bay.

As long as you take caution in your dealings with some of the new sellers then I say it doesn't harm the forum.
If any take the piss (and I didn't see what went on in the recent knock back a member had on here) then they get warned or banned.

It's been the same on here for years and it's always good fun when someong comes on with a lifesize Jar-Jar to sell for £2,000
when we can have a bit of banter.

I'm on a replica prop forum where you have to be a member for 45 days before you can sell anything. I like the idea of it and it's somehow
programmed into the forum that stops you doing this, don't know whether it's an easy thing to do on here?

But my view is leave it as it is. 8)

just back from travelling around ash clouds,,,

although at first i clicked on number of posts before you can sell.
now that i have read all the points,, keep it as it is.

Because ,, yeah its hard not knowing whats what and some first time seller/posters have ended up joining in or staying and its banter.. but the one that got it for me was RS-light. sure i buy there from time to time but i rarely look at the discussion pages.

sometimes you pick up ggod stuff, and sometimes we have banter.

game on

As a newbie both to the boards and to vintage collecting I really have no problem with a set limit of posts prior to being able to sell.

However in my case it's a bit academic as I'm restoring my battered old figures for my own enjoyment and buying the odd loose one that's beyond repair.

Still if it will prevent unscrupulous people joining up to flog dodgy wares and to eliminate the "I've just discovered a gold mine in the loft - how much can I Ebay it for?" comedy sagas then it can only be a good thing?

Would I be right in saying it all depends on what is being sold? The new guy who has the misb stuff for sale (nicorsts1) for example- he got a much warmer welcome than a guy with beaters or potf2 stuff.
Having said that I wanted to buy two of his (nicorsts1) items, made an offer but have heard f*** all....

It seems to run pretty well as is really- spammers and scammers soon get told to go away within minutes usually. I actualy quite like the abuse some get, it make me laugh!

Well that pole certainly cleared up any confusion, the results speak for themselves!

As there's little in it, I conclude we leave it as it is which has nothing to do with my motivation (or lack of) ;)

How about I make 2 sales forums - one purely for vintage (eg 1977-1985) and then a sales forum for EVERYTHING else (modern, lego, busts etc) then it will be easy for me or the other mods to just move the less relevant (but still Star Wars related) threads.

TBH Edd, I think that will only complicate things.
It's alright as it is. We'll manage, with the help of a lot of swearing.
