That item you never got as a child..

For me it was anything that was discontinued around the time of ESB. Cantina, Land Of The Jawas, Death Star - basically anything I'd seen on 20-backs. There was a slightly older kid up the road that had all three. The swine.

I always wanted a Dewback too - and I've got that itched scratched now.

I was lucky and my mum bought me a Falcon and some figures from a bingo win for Xmas. I never forget that present. That was the only ship I ever had which I still have with the figures.
I would always look at toy catalogues and dream of owning a At-At but I never got one. So now I have managed to buy one and most of the figures I never had.

At the time I was pretty happy with my lot and didn't really give a monkeys. I had the Falcon and several smaller ships. In hindsight I think the only one I would have really wanted was the AT-AT but I did play with one quite often cos my cousin had one. I think the AT-AT has the best playability of all the vehicles.

Y Wing - no way were my folks paying the asking price back in the day oh and the twin pod cloud car - we had every relative searching the length and breadth of the country for that thing :D

Hmm....it's hard to think what I really wanted as a kid cause I basically got everything I wanted  (spoiled kid alert  )

I suppose if there was an item it would have been the Cloud City playset (I had and still have) my Cloud Car but wanted the playset to go with it but my parents just couldn't get it for me....

I did anchor after the AT-AT for a long while but I did eventually get one (which I still have) ...

All my Starwars toys were bought for Christmas and Birthdays I weren't one of those kids who got new toys every other week (unless it was me buying a figure with money saved up from my paper rounds  )

In the early years it was an x-wing and later an at-at. I purchased an x-wing here on the forum earlier in the year but felt no love for it when it arrived. That desire for the new from childhood days has passed, I now collect to connect with the past.

Goodness there was plenty I never got as a kid that I would have liked :!: Millennium Falcon, X-Wing :( Also rem wanting a 3PO collectors case.

Also, you would think having got my first figures in 1985 that my childhood stuff would've been full of last 17 yet I had none, and no knowledge of them to be fair apart from looking at racks of figures in Dominos and Zodiac toys in Leicester that meant absolutely nothing to me

The non Star Wars item I always wanted but never got.. Evel knivel stunt bike with the winder
Surely one of the best toys ever

List was endless for me, but a X-Wing has to be number one. They just weren't in the shops where I lived in the mid 80's.

Other stuff that comes to mind, Jabba, DSD, Luke Stormtrooper, Tie Fighter (Had Tie Interceptor), first Han Solo and Cloud Car pilot.

I could go on! But I'm over it honestly. :?

There was a rumour going around school that they had released an Imperial Shuttle. I didn't know anyone who had one, nor did I ever see one in a shop or even know how much they were. One day I'd saved some money so we went to Newcastle to search for one. It wasn't to be. Came back with Rebel Troop Transport instead.

How much were they when they came out? I know they were expensive. Could never work out if the reason they were scarce was because they were pricey or if they just rare and so sold as soon as they hit the shelves.

I seem to remember £49.99 but I could be wrong it was a long time ago..

Wow, thats a lot for back in the eighties. Still would have loved one.

There was a lot of stuff I did not know existed when I was younger, the cloud city and death star play sets being some of those items.

I always wanted the B-Wing as a kid, I think the main reason was that it features so prominently on the Trilogo poster and also the design is so different from the other starfighters. That Trilogo poster was examined for hours when I was a kid so the likes of the Imperial Shuttle, Death Star Playset and Sandcrawler never figured much i my childhood wishlist.

Fortunately I managed to fulfil my wishlist and some in later years, but I still have a massive soft spot for B-Wings and regularly have to tal myself out of buying loose ones when I see them.

I remember a lad at the top of our road came back from a long stay in the US - think his dad worked out there - and he came back with the Imperial Shuttle AND the POTF Tatooine Skiff.

I really wanted that skiff, thought it was the absolute mutts nuts. The bastard wouldn't swap it though :(

There are some great stories in this thread.
Being older than most of you, I was 9 when Star Wars came out, the toy I always asked for but never got was The Falcon.
Now I'm trying to remember if it was available here before Empire came out as Palitoy didn't issue it until 1980 , I still didn't get it then, nor did I receive the other biggie i wanted when Star Wars 2 came out, the AT-AT!
I'm pretty sure our local stores sold the Kenner Falcons though because my mate had one and am sure that was in late 70's.

For me, as detailed here: http://starwarsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=30932 it was the Laser Pistol. Searched high and low for it and never got one until got into collecting again as an adult. Other than that we had a fantastic toy shop in Sheffield called Redgates (now sadly gone) which had most of the ships etc we wanted. For some reason a strong memory for me is desperately wanting Luke's Landspeeder and being so excited to receive it at Christmas :)

Hi mate, I remember Redgates well, me and my mates would catch the 215 bus to Pond St. and venture there every other week and spend hours in there. Must have been one of the best stores in the country.
The other alternate weeks we would catch the 19 bus into Rotherham and visit Coopers toys, another excellent shop. I remember asking them if I could have the 12 and 20 back box header cards but no joy.
We also had 2 local toy shops in my local village of Dinnington, one called 'Billy Whites' and the other 'Goodtoys'
I walked into the latter one day and saw some giant versions of the SW figures but they didn't take my fancy until Fett came out.
I always wanted the Death Star and bugged my Mum for one so she asked the pompous old man that ran it to which he replied with disdain "Death Star!? We don't sell anything like that! "
She had a word with his Son later on and he ordered one in for me. Spent hours and hours with that playset.
One of the best battles I ever had was when my Rebels had to join forces with the Empire to ward off a large scale assault from hundreds of Daleks (big bag of marbles)
Was also lucky to get a Twin Pod Cloud Car one Christmas and am surprised others have had trouble getting one

Happy days and this is why we collect our treasured toys/memories.

Regards
Paul

Another Redgates alumni :D Surely are happy memories and great to tap into the nostalgia by collecting again. I do remember Redgates once getting trumped, when I waited ages for "Luke Jede Knight" and would check every week to no avail. Then, one weekend, I was in a tiny toy shop in Bridlington that had it in and beat Redgates to it!
