Talk about new Star Wars movie, do not read if you have NOT seen it

I loved the movie.

Great to see the old cast. Han's death was very moving.

Daisy Ridley was terrific!!!!

Amazing flashback to Bespin when she picked up Luke's old lightsaber.

Loved the final scene as Rey climbs the steps at the old jedi temple to reveal Luke....

Loved the score too!!!

Saw it in 3D last night and seeing it 2D tomorrow.

For me everything about the film was perfect. Actually the only thing I would have liked to have seen was Chewies rampage going on a bit longer and crazier, really losing his Wookie ****!

all this wait and its finally here and ..........i ****in loved it :D so many scenes gave me goose bumps and i almost cried had to keep blinking fast  watched it in 2d and im going to watch it in 3d next week :D

He's killing his father. Should it be so easy?

Not easy, I just didn't find it believable. "Will you help me?" followed by sticking his lightsabre through him 2 seconds later. Would have preferred he either went away with Han or was just hostile the whole time before killing him.

Been in a few hours after watching it the once in 2D and .... I just don't know what I thought really :-/

There were parts I really liked. Loved the initial assault on the village. Thought Kylo Ren was the best part of the whole film. Sure, he was beaten up a bit easily but the point is, he wasn't a sith. He was very much in training. Thought Han's death was handled well. You could see it coming a million miles away but it was a good way to kill him off (and we all knew Ford was never going to sign up to another film).

Hated the fact it was another Death Star, just bigger and more powerful etc etc. The rebel, sorry, resistance, attack on it was lame. The countdown to firing was really lazy writing. I thought the music score was non existent. They pissed me off, that was one of the strongest elements of the original trilogy and the prequels had stand out scores too. And controversy, I didn't really like Daisy Ridleys acting. The plum in the mouth English rose thing was getting on my tits by the end. Oh, and the big bad confused the hell out of me.

I dunno. I'm going to need to watch it again I think. Summing up my initial thoughts, great in parts, weird pacing, very poor story. Not much more than a remake of ANH.

7/10

Right now, I think I liked ROTS a little better.

Just finished watching Jedi tonight as I "prep" my little one for our trip to see TFA tomorrow and I am almost as excited as the 1st showing I went too.

The movie has been stuck in my head for a couple of days now, and as I said in an earlier post, this movie really is a passing of the baton to a new generation whilst maintaining all the core values of the OT that we love.

Better with a little hesitation - Vader had the same before deciding to save Luke from the Emperor.....

Saw it last night in 3D and came out a completely non-plussed.
I couldn't quite decide if the film I had just seen was a Wow! or a Meh!

Just came back from a second showing in 2D, which was a great improvement. Both in picture quality and appraisal of the movie.

Overall, I've decided it was a flawed Wow!
The newcomers all aquitted themselves brilliantly, especially Ridley.
Effects wise, the film just blew me away. My only small gripe was Snoke, which which I thought was a bit of a CGI letdown.
He was hyped-up as this character that normal practical effects where unable to render.
Surely, he was just a slap-head with a dodgy gob.

Strangely, I found Han's death more emotional second time around.
On initial viewing, all I could think of was 'contractually obligated death scene', which drew me out of the film.

As with a lot of reviews, I found the re-hashed Starkiller/Death Star III (yawn) plot line very stale.
Although, with a 4 billion franchise at stake, you can't blame them for playing safe.

I noticed a couple of the scenes from the trailers were missing, i.e. Kylo striding through the forest and igniting his sabre and Maz handing Luke's sabre to Leia.

Anybody notice Daniel Craig's cameo with Rey?

I just got back from my first viewing now. I loved it. There are gonna be things people pick apart, but no movie is perfect. It could be called unoriginal for being too akin to the original trilogy, but after the prequels being almost universally disliked, playing it safe and kinda taking bits from all of the original trilogy was a wise idea. The prequels were fairly original in a lot of ways but they didnt feel like Star Wars really. Not my Star Wars. This did, perhaps a lot more polished, and modernised but it felt amazing, seeing the falcon and chewie and everything that was familiar whilst at the same time being introduced to new characters.

I dont understand why folk would not be interested in it just because George Lucas had nothing to do with it. I really dont think he was a genius by any means. Star Wars has always been about the collected efforts of many, the model builders, the actors, the special effects, costume designers etc. The original Star Wars, he didnt have total control. ESB he had Lawrence Kasden come up with story, and Irvin Kirshner direct. Rotj was Richard Marquand directing. Prequels, he had total control and ****ed it up, badly. I will always be glad he had the initial inspiration to come up with this world, but so many more people have contributed to it in a more positive way more recently than what he has, in my opinion.

I think everyone should go give it a chance. Whats the worst could happen, you see another bad star wars film. Best could happen, you might actually begrudgingly like it!

I just got back from my 3rd viewing, did end up going to a 3D showing and enjoyed it but preferred it in 2D.

When you mention flashback to Bespin do you mean in a sound or actually see something? I don't recall seeing anything.

Yes, Daniel Craig is the stormtrooper who gets mind tricked into letting Rey out of the holding chair/cell.

Yeah. It only clicked with me on the second viewing.

I'm assuming Simon Pegg was the slimy scrap dealer who tries to buy BB8 off Rey.

And if you think about the lines from Ren before he kills him it's all deliberate ambiguity: "I know what I must do I just don't know that I can do it" and "Will you help me, whatever?" (or something like that) This can easily be interpreted as leaving behind the Dark Side or killing Solo to complete his transition to the Dark Side. I think he's genuinely conflicted the whole time on the bridge and only calls it at the point of handing over his sabre.

What bugged me about this part (other than Solo being killed off) was the fact Han Solo, he with the gift of the gab, is lost for words at a time he needs to do his most important sales pitch. I wanted to scream at him to keep talking, to sell the lightside, to mention the word "mother", etc. but he clams up and gets a gut full of sabre instead. I guess you could say that Solo found the whole thing so hard and emotional that even he couldn't talk his way out of it.

And as far as I'm concerned, Leia killed Han: if she hadn't told him to bring Ben home then Solo would have avoided him. You could see it as he was deciding whether to walk onto the bridge or not.

Jamie, I do agree to an extent in terms of Ridley. I liked her but found parts of her acting annoying. When she and Fin are talking at the same time (post Tie Fighter fight on Jakku) you could almost see her counting off before starting talking again. But I'm being picky, overall, a good job, although I bought into Boyega a lot more. Another thing about the very gorgeous Daisey Ridley: anyone else get the Keira Knightley feeling??

Finally got to see this last night, so been absorbing and deliberating on my thoughts.

Star Wars IS back.

Yes, it's very much like the OT....and has some great nods to it with various bits. Jedi remote on the Falcon, fallen AT AT etc etc.

Kylos story is great. He's not fully trained so gets his butt whooped by an up and coming force user...but not killed. Nice lead up to Ep8 now. Reys story is very interesting. How is she a force user?... who are her parents? Secret daughter of Luke perhaps, or Han & Leias who was hidden away when Ben went bad... 3 years of waiting now to find out....grrrr.

Mark, I may have some good news for you...

I think I read somewhere that Episode VIII is due for release in May 2017...with Rian Johnson taking over the director's chair...

After seeing the film my imagination is now running riot  ....... I must say influenced by reading EU books, but hey we have had a Ben Solo ( as opposed to Ben Skywalker) so why not a Rey Skywalker

Luke....

After the ROTJ where Luke battles the emperor and Anakin steps in and is redeemed from the dark side, what happens until the force awakens film.

So my conjecture...

Luke continues with the rebellion for several years to fight the remainder of the empire and eventually crush it, during which time he meets a force user and marries ( a la...Mara Jade type character) and has a child ( Rey)

The now Jedi master starts a school for force users to train them to be Jedi to protect and serve the Galaxy going forwards from any rising from the ashes of the empire ( namely the First Order).

One of the Padawans being trained is Ben Solo, ben solo is lured by the dark side ( Snoke...who may or not be Plageius ) and wipes out the Padawans thus going a long way to eradicate the new Jedi order?
Luke sends his wife and Rey away in order to put them into hiding and he too goes to find the first Jedi temple which houses a powerful Jedi artefact he needs in his fight to bring the jedi order back, bring Ben back from the dark side and bring resolution to all the things he blames himself for.

Whilst on the run Lukes wife decides to leave Rey temporarily ( for her own safety) on Jakku and takes Kylo Ren on a wild goose chase where he thinks he will catch up with her and Lukes daughter, when he does, he kills Lukes wife hence Rey is left in safety on Jakku.

Luke is desperate with guilt and remorse and believes his daughter is safer on Jakku without him.

Kylo Ren.....

Now KR is looking for luke, but knows there is "the girl" somewhere, he knows of the map, and also the fact that Lukes lightsaber is out there.
KR is torn with the light and dark, and still needs to complete his training and fully go to the dark side, the final test will be meeting Han his father and what he has to do to fulfil his dark side destiny.... Hence the killing of Han.

The battle with " them girl" puts KR into turmoil as Rey uses the force as it " awakens" to defeat him, where she scars him and severs his left hand.

he cannot call the luke saber to him over the call from Rey, as she is directly related to Luke and the saber will be called to her before KR being Lukes nephew.
Ren is rescued by Snokes first order, and prosthetics applied , his training by Snoke will then be completed, setting him up to now resume the search for Luke in the next film.
