Hi all,

Just a bit of advice needed, I've got a collection of AFA graded figures and even though I've got pictures of them it is really frustrating when you can see a reflection of the camera etc in the shot.

Is there a good way to avoid this or is it a case of getting lucky with the light!!!

Cheers

To get really good pics you need a camera stand to avoid wobble, some white back sheeting and an external light to illuminate.

Yeah, what Jason said and avoid using a flash. Use daylight or a really strong lamp preferably with a "white" bulb in.
I gave some advise to another member here recently on shooting figs. I'll try and find it in my PMs and post it here.

Found it. It's not exactly studio quality but it's how i took a lot of my pictures before i got a light-box.
Hope it helps.

So here's what to do- Take a white sheet and lay it on a table then get some sort of box (before i got my light box i'd use a playstation box) put the box under the sheet creating a little wall. This is what you shoot against. Then, if you have any strong lamps point them at what you are gonna shoot. If not you need to shoot in the middle of the day when the sun is bright and have a window to your back and the table in from of it. Then shoot away and you should get much better results.

It sounds complicated but really, it's not.
Here's some pictures to show you what i mean-

Step 1: Get a table, a lamp, a sheet and a box.

Step 2: Lay sheet over box on table creating a kind of backing/back-drop.

Step 3: Point lamp at table. If you don't have a strong lamp then use day light. (daylight is actually better usually if you can get it.)

Step 4: Put item on the sheet. I've used a Yoda ;)

Step 5: Shoot!
Results. At first the Yoda was a bit dark so i shone a 2nd lamp and it brightened it a bit.

1 lamp. Bit dark.

2 lamps. Much better.

Et voila!
