I have actually had 'the dog ate them' excuse used on me on a cardback auction. In a group of 8-10 there was one rare card and I got the lot cheaply given how much the rare card was worth. Then I got a message from the seller saying the dog got hold of one of the cards and it was ruined. You'd never guess which one...
