I listen to many podcasts whilst I'm working and I listen to two Star Wars podcasts (have tried many but only stuck with two)

I listen to Galaxy of Toys and although I enjoy the show it more often than not focuses on modern collecting rather than the vintage toys. I also listen to The Chive Cast which I prefer but, in my opinion, is slightly better although again I always enjoy listening to them and am currently working my way through the archives of the pod.

Listening to them recently though has got me thinking, I think it would be an awesome edition to the forum if we had our own podcast. I have the software and the know on how to produce a podcast and would be more than willing to get this off the ground but will only take the time to do it if it's something that the forum members would be interested in.

Obviously it would centre around our forum and the UK collectors (most podcasts are all US based), but would need contributions from forum members each month to make podcast work.

We could brainstorm on here what people would like on the pod, interviews? News? Etc

This is just a thought but decided I would put it out there. If people are up for it and willing to contribute then I've got a week off early April where I could get it underway.

Thoughts?

Likewise.. I listen to a large number of podcasts, and I was a regular contributor to a US Breaking bad cast for a few years. Would love to get into a regular cast here..

goodness knows how I could contribute, being a small cheese aside some of the behemoth collectors/experts on here though..

Count me in if looking for creative speaking idiots

We could cover news stories that have broken in the collectors world. Also, pick some threads out of the forum and discuss them further. Little snippets about collecting history and collectors stories.

I have tried american based podcasts. I find the presenters awful. I listen to a few podcasts about various things and prefer the ones that are a bit more light hearted, chuck in the odd curse or un pc comment, and generally make for lighthearted listening. Much like a forum I know……..

Brilliant idea use to produce and present a school show as I'm the ict coordinator so anyway I could help I'd be up for

Getting a good response for this, have had a few PMs from a few members some offering help others saying they'd be interested in the podcast.

Will be looking for a couple of members to help out (some offers already) and then different members to contribute regularly or as one offs.

So looking for ideas to be featured on the pod.

Exactly the kind of ideas I was thinking about. I think news and forum topics are an ideal way to start plus each pod has an interview with a forum member talking about collecting habits, collecting stories and the like etc.

Would definitely welcome both of you aboard if you have the time to help

Before you run with this you may want to check with Edd as SWFUK is his intellectual property. I know a podcast has been discussed not too long ago but don't know how far it got.

some of the casts as mentioned are good, some awful but the bad ones tend not to survive and its the passionate people who keep them going. So, I never want to be too harsh.. because if somebody is meticulously passionate about something and you share that, its going to interest you.

Whats the point of doing this cast? It must be to present this forum and its star wars interests, varied. Heres a list of regular features I think should be produced to make a cast work

Subject/debate of the week/month.show. There must be something star wars related, whether its collecting, films, casting for the new films that can be subjected to a round table discussion.
Vintage collecting stories - from the past
Vintage collecting stories - from new collectors and modern day vintage collecting.
Ebay (etsy/gumtree/ebid) Round-up - ebay is a site that can provide endless content for a podcast on collecting. Lunatics galore, crap being listed, and of course those holy grail items that appear priced at £3m for a carded one legged ewok
Modern collecting - yes.. it goes on, some of the stuff coming out at the moment is (for me at least) mouthwateringly brilliant, but then...
Custom Figure- a subject that always fascinates me. I've found some amazing star wars customising websites, some of the stuff people churn out is amazing.
Show reports. Theres always a collector fair on somewhere.. live reports are always interesting. See what normans are trying to pass off as valuable..

Any cast must have a semi regular bunch of features and a time slot of at least 45mins to be half decent. We also need to show the american heavy star wars world that Britain Rules the world..

My brief pen pics of the casts I listen to:

the 'chive cast is also one of my faves as they pick a vintage theme figure and go to town on it, the latest was Dengar. I advise anyone to listen to it, some awesome comments on our bandaged headed bounty hunter, and related Haiku's every week..

Galaxy of toys has some good vintage enthusiasm, one guy is anti modern (which reminds me of many here  ) but they have a good range of subjects relating a lot to new star wars content. Funnily enough one of the main 'casters also has an R5 with a marble stuck up its arse, like myself.

Rebel force Radio seems to be very 'in the know', as is 'the force cast'. But at times I feel that its a little too close to its subject matter and you feel that its hard for them to criticise or be objective, but they are very polished and always worth listening to. Theres also a lot of stuff under Rebel force Radio such as Fangirls go rogue, which is a female perspective of star wars.. quite interesting I must say.

Star Wars Action News is by Majorie and Arnie, who are ****ing nuts about star wars collecting at every level. Marjorie has a Jar-Jar collecting focus!!!. A cute couple who probably aren't everyones cup-of-tea but I love them..

Wampas Lair has some interaction with its Facebook group and has a lot of regular features. Can become a little samey because of that. But still good.

How about a monthly toy Toni update. You should get Jason on to give an update on what the latest tells are :D

In all seriousness it's a great idea. I think it should be uk very centric. Theres a wealth of audio and visual information on Kenner's history. I would be great to get to that level of detail on Palitoy.

I think what would be really cool is as well as having guys that know their stuff, you should have Rookie collector to play off them and ask the question maybe the audience are thinking.

I would like it also if you had members from the forums on to discuss their memories of Star Wars growing up and their collections - don't just concentrate on the super collectors though. I'm more interest in what the average person has to say.

I listen to all of the casts mentioned in this thread so far and would fully support your pod and download every episode.

Hope this happens. Can't wait.

Totally agree and will message him today to get his approval.

He's probably the ideal person to be interviewed for the first podcast if he approves

Totally agree with what is being said here. Varied sections are a must and that is why I'll make sure we put together a small team to make this happen as each section will need to be well researched each mont. For example you mention eBay sales, that will be a big job for someone and an area that will need a lot of work each month so would require one member dedicated to working on it each month.
I'd quite enjoy doing the forum members interviews, again I think it would take some good research going through all their posts and finding out whatever information we can about them to keep the interview fresh and alive.

Would the Toni update be like the shipping forecast?

Jason

You do seriously know your stuff though so would be good having you on board on something like this.

Always read your comments with interest as they're nearly always very informative.

Just re read this, I didn't realise a podcast had been discussed before, how long a go was it as would like to read through the posts.

Does anyone know how far they went with it? Or was it just something that was banded about?

I will get this off the ground, but be good to see what was said and if there were any ideas on old threads

What an interesting idea, I would imagine a lot of work would be involved.
Whilst informative at times I do find Galaxy & Chivecast can descend into idle witterings for the sake of filling time

I wonder if it would detract from the amount of people that come on here though.
I know someone was talking about FB pages taking away viewers, would people just wait for the Podcast for all the news, etc rather than trawling numerous threads.

I don't listen to podcasts, but to me 45 mins of air time is a lot of air time to be filling. I'd start shorter and expand if things go well. Also, a lot of vintage is about visual references, how does that translate to audio? What do other podcasts do?

Cheers Jason

I listen to a podcast called the pokercast. It's a poker podcast that accompanies a forum (2+2).

They do it once a week, and are normally between 2 and 3 hours in length, sometimes more.

Poker is pretty visual. Don't underestimate the power of the spoken word. It's more or less like a radio show. That sort of informal chatter interspersed with news, comments and opinion and guests. Bits of strategy talk. Stories etc from the forums and results reports.

If you did it approximately monthly. I think you could fill 45 mins to an hour.
