sorting and redisplaying collection

Having seen Carls collection a few times first hand those photos don't do it justice.

The POTF mocs and the coin sets are astounding..

I hope you have it better organised for when I pop up again in a few weeks time...

Wow, these displays are the nuts.

They are impressive aren't they. A lot of guys on here have incredible collections. My own is a drop in the ocean compared to some.

I have had a busy week! I have my loft boarded and lighting installed, I have moved my collection up there, where the modern will stay on display, vintage temporary stored up there, so I could totally empty my room, so I can decorate!

Starting to display my modern (and a few vintage vehicles) in the loft.

One thing that's always worried me about the loft for display or storage is the temperature swings. I happened to pop into my loft during this week's heat wave, and it was gas mark 8 up there! Alright, this week was an extreme example, but will you be insulating between the rafters?

This is exactly what I thought, when I boarded out the loft last year I was coming down literally wringing wet with sweat, it's like an oven up there in summer and freezing in the winter. How do people get past that?

Looking great so far Carl and I'm sure with the lick of paint and carpet it will finish it of just right 8)

Some other damn fine collections in this thread too, feling very jealous :( (although this has now spurred me on to start sourcing my bespoke shelving :) )

You don't really. Just try and minimise it. The only way would be to insulate the roof but I have my hang ups about doing that because i'm concerned about damp. If you have an older house and then add a **** load of lagging you can create all sorts of issues. I relagged my attic a number of years ago and it created one hell of a condensation problem. It's still not right but not as bad since I added roof vents and reshuffled the insulation a bit. When it's really hot I open the loft hatch which does help.

My observations on attic storage are this: heat alone will not cause as many issues as heat and damp. Damp is the worst thing. What is a killer to anything paper or card is storing outside in a shed. Please DO NOT DO THIS! I haven't found any degrading in any of my Star Wars items stored in the attic over the last 3 years. None at all except for a cardback that wasn't stored flat and started bending (resolved by storing flat again). It stands to reason that eventually the heat will cause some degrading so I don't look on attic storage as a permanent thing. Basically get them out of there as soon as you have anywhere else to display.

Cheers, yeah i have an understanding wife :D , its all going upstairs soon my daughter is at uni so her room is free so i'm taking it over

Nothing of financial value will be kept up in the loft, all my vintage mocs potf coins, ude coins and loose figure will moved back into my room once I have finished decorating. Modern stuff will be kept up in the loft! And 90% of it us loose anyway.

Hi, new guy here who is thinking about how to display his collection. What are peoples thoughts over displaying figures long term just on a shelf? Will they discolour in time? Some of mine certainly look a bit odd now, and for many years they were stored in my parents attic.

Does perpsex or glass help to prevent any discolouring? I'd rather keep them on display than tucked away. Thanks for any help.

My boxed SW Kenner focus in a regular 80cm Ikea Billy - recent addition, a boxed sandcrawler, not shown.

So desperately looking for a Sonic Landspeeder right now to complete the focus.

Started to put mocs and coins back into the room, still need to get 3 more detolf cabinets from ikea, still need to add rotj, tri logo abd loose figures, I am also toying with the idea of TV and blu ray player ( well my PS3)

Had the pleasure of meeting Carl last night for the first time and was also able to view his collection in the flesh, have to say that his display rooms are fantastic, not just quantity but quality. He has several high end items but also plenty of variation of all things Star Wars, it really was an eye-opener. But above all that, Carl was great to get on with and was very kind to let me into is home to see it considering he didn't me from Adam, top bloke, thoroughly enjoyed our 2 1/2 hour chat !

Cheers mate, the pleasure was all mine.
