Does anyone know any little shops/markets in London where I can find vintage figures?

I'm sure there must be some but I only really know one place in Camden...

There is retroman,I cant remember his market but have got his business card,i'l dig it out for you.

Maybe try modellers loft in caterham (croydon) its not far away from london at all and they do vintage star wars, try their website mate and email them about vintage cos they normally have it in store but not on website, they do some quality 70,80's toys ie;action force, karate kid etc....

Cheers stef

Many thanks! Is Retroman in Notting Hill? I will email modellersloft now, it's only a short train ride away.

I too would like to know of any shops selling vintage Star Wars figures.

I've recently moved to the UK, living in London W6 and have gone to a few markets and car boot sales and not seen anything yet.

Pure nostalgia I take it then mate?

Star-tourer - Nice to meet you mate, may be an idea to introduce yourself on the thread marked "who's who introduce yourself"if you havent already? The best ones I know are those mentioned although i'm sure there are many more in and around London, there is one in Tunbridge wells which I use from time to time and one in Bromley (both in kent)

Cheers guys,stef

i was wondering when this question was gonna come up.

camden market. the old bloke who was moved from the stables to another part of the market, his stool has loads of toys but its very expensive, you'll pay £95 for a loose complete luke stomtrooper, he also had imperial transport boxed for £195!!! if you get the chance go and an have a look as he wont be there very much longer, spoke to him last week and he's had enough.

modellers loft: (caterham) takes about 30 mins on the train from victoria i think, great place this but also a bit pricey, tons of vintage star wars last time i was there, rows an rows of figures on display, i bought a loose landspeeder for £10 but he wanted £60 for a loose crappy condition creature cantina. also if you collect other vintage toys then you'll love it here, i spent an hour lookin.

alfies antiques market: (edgware road bakerloo line) i have a feelin this bloke has finally gone, he had a small stool lots of vintage star wars but again pricey £15 for a loose greedo, i believe michael jackson went and bought planet of the apes figure of this bloke around 1999.

model shop uxbridge: sadly the owner of this place has passed away, he had lots of loose figures reasonbly priced, i got a barada for £7 off him.

mimi fifi (notting hill gate) another pricey toy shop lots of betty boop stuff, ask inside to see there vintage star wars and they will reveal a shoe box of over priced figures gamorrean guard was £15 i think.

never heard of that retroman that someone said?

i dont know of any other places in london but if you hear of any let me know please.

hope this helps.

Retroman is/was based at spitalfields market but bear in mind it was roughly a year ago that I last visited him,he had some cheapish last 17 figs in mint condition and some pukka vehicles in tip top condition.

Have his card somewhere and will dig it out for you guys, cant find it thus far (sorry)

you'll always find that the shops charge more than normal, they have to pay more over heads etc....

Yeah agree with that bollux, take the big 4 in america (brians toys, planet force, final frontier and action toys and collectables)their prices are inflated, although sadly they also have some pure quality too (wankers!)

We could do with a decent rival to brians toys here in the uk (without the 200% profit increases he blatantly charges)

Cheers stef

Not if I win the lottery mate!!i'd love to blow him out of the water and offer collectables at more affordable prices to real collectors.

But yes you are right he has a monoply on the market.

There were two Vintage/sci fi shops in Romford Essex, one either got done over in the late 90's or they didn't pay their rent and did a runner as one day I went with my parents to get some loose figures (£1 each in a box) and the shop was wrecked...I remember they had a life size DR WHO tardis in the shop and on the day we went , peering through the window in amongst the carnage of the shop (most was gone) was the tardis on its side!

There was another shop in the market (not the outside one) in the old rumford market place , thats a building and its somewhere in the middle (just had loose figures and a few ships)

Another place and it was quite a big place was in Southend, I only visited it once but it was located near the train station that takes you straight onto the shops, you literally came out the station, up the stairs (or escalator) and it was on the top level of the shopping centre.

Joe - are you an essex boy mate?

Romford is a interesting place  my missus moved down from chelmsford to be with me,after long arguments about me moving up there (like **** would I!)

Just thought i'd throw that in a bit random (sorry)

Will have to have a look next time I cross the river (she has family in romford)

Cheers stef

Born in Dagenham (no digs on that please ;) ) moved out to Brentwood (nice but quiet) when I was about 8/9 and lived there till 2 years ago, I worked in both Romford and Chelmsford and Chelmsford still has its fair share of nutters (but agree on Romford being a STRANGE place!)

So yes, born and bred Essex lad lol

Fair play to you mate,i'v got no beef with essex boys!actually have a couple of mates from up there.

I half lived with her in her place in south woodham ferrers (nice town) and then stayed the odd night when she moved to chelmsford (hated it there) and then the fighting began

Thanks for the reply.

Stef

To be fair, the further away you get from London the better it gets, still all full of rude boys and chavs but you can't have it all can you :D

No mate you cant thats very true,we even get chavs in ROYAL tunbridge wells

The girls are easy from essex though (bonus) it's like fishing with dynamite

Yeah browny, defo nostalgia mate.
I grew up in Whyteleafe (next train stop to Caterham). Had some great trips to Modellors Loft. They always had great stuff. Last time i went over to the UK to see mum (who still lives there), i was pleasantly surprised to see Modellors Loft still there, & even more surprised to the the shelves & shelves of vintage Star Wars stuff. Pretty pricey tho.

Though we just run our ebay shop from home people are always welcome to come and look at our stock - most is on ebay but not all.
