I've just finished Joe Abercrombie's 'Best served cold' and I must say I very much liked it. If you like your fantasy funny, quirky, smart, and very very bloody, this is the book for you.

Are there more SF & fantasy readers around here? What's your favourite book?

Take your pick from;

"Dune" by Frank Herbert,
"The forever war" by Joseph Haldeman,
"I am legend" by Richard Matheson (so much better than that Will Smith ****ed up film),
"Flowers for Algernon" by Daniel Keyes,
"Gateway" by Frederich Pohl,
"The Moon is a harsh mistress" by Robert A Heinlein.

Flowers for algernon is the best book i'v ever read, glad i'm not alone in liking that book.

I prefer factual war books, anything from napoleonic times through to current day.

Best war book i'v read thus far is stalingrad by anthony beevor.

Totally with you on Flowers for Algernon mate, fantastically well written and a great read! (Actually not two things that always go hand in hand!)

Did you read 1812 - Napoleon's fatal march on Moscow by Adam Zamoyski then Stefan?

Thanks for the tip guys, I will give Flowers for Algernon at try.

Hello emiel

Yes mate i'v read that book a couple of times, thats a very good book too, just to think hitler made almost exactly the same mistake as good old shorty!although at least shorty did actually capture moscow!

The loss of life in napoleans russian campaign is beyond staggering.

going back to flowers for algernon it really is the best book i'v ever read,

Ohhhhhhhh YES! I used to cheat though and if I died by my bad choice I would skip back and choose the right one..

Actually when I read the title of this thread I wanted to ask about these, then they got all serious so I didn't bother

Yeah I remember those!
Used to have loads of them, tho I cheated to. Anytime I had to fight someone, I just won. I never bothered with any of the details about skill levels or whatever it was.

Me and my mate discovered the other night that we both read them as kids....

So do you remember your favourite book?

Deathtrap Dungeon, Trial Of the Champions and Creature of Havoc were three of my favs.

And yes.....I cheated aswell. 8)

They were before my time really but had hand me downs, once I had read and cheated on one I had to cheat on every single book I ever got my hands on

I used to read them (and cheat all the away) whilst in the car driving to holiday places with my family lol

Remember that quite clearly actually rofl

Hang about, was Deathtrap Dungeon the one with that horrible big fat creature on the front? If so that was my favourite, I think I read all possible outcomes and combinations of that book 2 times over!

If I hadn't been buying so much recently I would have had this lot.

Just finished...

I think between me and my brother we must have had most of them. Like Joe we read them on holidays or the like.
I actually think they are all still lying in his old wardrobe.

I can't remember what one was my favourite though.
