Sending an expensive MOC to the US

Excuse the language but what is the figure?

If you are excusing your language, did you perhaps mean "What the **** is the figure?"

Hi Iain, ther are a few ways of going about this to be honest. If you are looking to insure the item to the total value you have stated, it will cost a fair bit. Usually the standard insurance cover on Parcelforce global express or priority is £500. After that, you have to pay extra to get the insurance up.

Needless to say, you must go for a fully trackable service from door to door and you need to check this. Some international services only track the item in detail until it leaves the UK which will not give you the piece of mind you need.

I would say generally Global Express should be good enough. You will need to state the items worth and fill out the usual customs info. If the piece is insured as standard to £500 then this will be all you can claim in the eventuality that it gets lost/ damaged. Depending on the nature of the piece and the current condition it might be worth paying for the extra insurance. For example, if I was shipping a yellow bubbled high end POTF figure it might be worth it as they can sometimes burst through bubbles in transit.

I have used global express to ship several 3 packs now and never had an issue. Sometimes the buyer has asked me to insure it fully at their cost and sometimes they have been happy to go with £500 cover and take the risk. Check with the buyer first as Im sure you will. Whatever you do, keep hold of the receipt and check the tracking regualrly for updates. It should be there in a week.

Good luck, Chris.

You read my mind, and i should know better not to excuse myself on here

Don't use Royal Mail or parcel force. As said their tracking is **** and their insurance is not great.

Personally I would use FedEx. I used them to send a 8kg box of 5 consoles worth over £2000 to France last year, and it cost about £60. They are quick and the tracking is excellent. Book through parcel2go as it is cheaper.

It's not going to be as cheap as royal mail, but you get what you pay for and I'm sure somebody buying £1500 figures can afford to pay for proper shipping.

Thanks Chris - pretty much what I had looked at - the extra insurance does whack the price up a bit but I will leave that down to the buyer to decide (but make them aware of the consequences)

Am I right in thinking that out US chums don't have to pay import duty ?

No worries Iain, they shouldnt be paying any import duty so the money they spend on extra insurance might be well worth it.

Itmay also be worth looking into fed ex like edd says if their tracking is better.

Chris.

FedEx tells you exactly where it is, what day and time it is expected to be delivered, and is also significantly faster .Last time I sent a console to California it was delivered in under 3 days! That was by economy too.

Whats the score with sending through FedEx - I've checked and they have an office here in Norwich - do I just take the package down there ?

I always book through Parcel2Go and just get it collected from home/work depending on what day it is. I'm not sure if you can drop off at the depots.

No duty or taxes on anything we get from across the pond. Remember the Boston tea party

Can anyone confirm that Parcelforce, Fedex, UPS etc will actually insure against damage or loss to a collectable? I know that they will gladly take your money but I've spoken to TNT in the past about this and they don't so just wondering if the others may or may not pay out if, God forbid it, something does go wrong?

Cheers,
Christian

I got compensation out of Royal Mail last year for a console I sent to Brazil which somehow got cracked during shipping. That was the console itself though, I have no idea how they'd handle a claim for packaging damage (eg a box, bubble or cardback.)

Personally I try and pack so well that it won't possibly get damaged, and then the insurance is there for if it gets lost. A TV I bought from eBay over Xmas vanished in to thin air, in the middle of claiming for it at the moment.
