Hey all,
Me again with another restoration project.
This time round a pretty nasty Scout Walker box with loads of fairly recent sellotape applies and some significant rips and crushing.
I used lighter fluid to remove the sellotape and the residue left behind. Once this was removed the box could be flattened and then cleaned with warm soapy water and more lighter fluid. Liberal use of the iron was then used on the back of the ox to flatten it out.
This time round I tried something I hadn't before, spraying a small amount of water onto the back of the box to soften it up then I hit it hard with a medium heat iron to really flatten some of the major creases out. I was worried that using water might damage the box but it worked a treat, then used a heavy book to keep the card flat as it cooled down.
I used a UHU type glue to start to repair the tears and to reattached the lid of the box.
I hope you like the results, it's cool to be able to take a knackered box and bring it back to life, whilst it's not perfect I think it's shitloads better than it was.
I have a few more boxes to go out so I will be sure to post the results once done.
Cheers
Gary

What a difference such an amazing job 8) hats off restoration man 8)

There are plenty of battered boxes out there so enough to keep you busy and it sure as hell is a btter alternative to the reproduction stuff flooding the market :!:

Hadn't even occurred to me, but I couldn't agree more

Great work bud

Love sprucing beater boxes, as has been said, it's a far cry from all of the repro out there, and just adds a different dimension to the collecting.

A restored box has added character, and the added bonus that you are putting a little back into the hobby.

Well done bud :D

Mate - that is quality - and it's great to see things that probably would have ended up on the tip being bought back to life like that

Great work, finished restoration looks way better than I thought it would.

Some good tips there too, hats off to you sir!

Camera Trickery!
That's a great job, it's really made a difference.
Thanks for sharing. I love a good before and after shot.
