I've been away for a few days and have just come home to a note saying "parcel left in blue bin". (This is a paper recycling bin to those abroad)

Because my bins needed emptying I had brought them to the front of the house and left them on my drive close to my front door. This made it far easier for my brother to just pop them out for collection while I was away.

This means my parcel has been collected with all my waste paper and dumped unlikely to ever be returned.

I'm waiting on confirmation, but I had two parcels possibly on the way. A joblot of figures worth around £30 - £40 from Michael Sith or a bundle of cardbacks from DubJeff worth £100+.

Fingers crossed it's not the cardbacks as I don't think there was anything too special in the joblot from Michael but still. I'm gutted either way, but what a complete .... up, who in the right mind would leave post in a bin???

Since the Royal Mail price raise, Hermes are just as cheap for a small package and way cheaper for heavy package and will collect from the door. They're going to have to do some serious grovelling and compensating for me to use them again.

What total & utter stupidity by RM, though TBH I am far from shocked, fingers crossed they cough up.

I use p2g for all my smaller parcels & paisley freight for huge stuff as RM are taking the piss big time as we all already know.

Completely ridiculous. I have to admit our posty is ok. They leave stuff in sensible places at least. Leaving them in a bin is crazy

Unbelievable,, I am a postman myself and I can tell you that we are not allowed to leave parcels anywhere other than an open porch or with a neighbour.

But it is a much more common problem than people would think, it has happened Twice at my office and once it was 3 days before Christmas and a Postman put 4 Amazon parcels in a customers bin,, the bin men came that same afternoon and it was goodbye Christmas pressies. :( :(

The postman was given a warning, and the customer was refunded, as for the rest of us it we had to have a meeting outlining where parcels could and could not be left.

Hope you get this resolved. :D

I am also a postie as most of you know and have to agree with Skywalker. Our delivery conditions state that the only place we can leave parcels is in the customers designated safe place which they have told us or with a neighbour.

The problem is it is an industry of corner cutting and always not doing the job as it should be done. Some of the stuff I see and hear going on in other office's is scary and no surprise people's opinion of RM is not great. I am proud to be a postie and of the job I do and it ****ing pisses me off that other posties don't see the job in the same way and basically give the whole company a bad rep when most posties are decent, hard working people.

On another note, amazon have started their own delivery service called amazon logistics. Last week, we had 5 posties in our office come back off delivery saying they had seen parcels literally left on the doorstep or hanging out of post boxes, not hidden at all.

I do hope it's not my regular postie as he is a nice bloke and something like this is unlike him. He has admitted signing for things to save his and my time, but this is beyond any common sense.

One small bonus is that it's not the more expensive cardbacks from Jeff.

Unbelievable. Do they have a Facebook page? Might be worth posting this info there. Could get some well earned, wide-spread, bad press.

I find tweeting them is reasonably effective. However, they will just throw the 'you can get compensation' which is utter bollocks.....

so far ive not had any issues with myherpes.

Hermes is definitely the way to go. Sent out over 30 parcels with them, mostly vintage over the past couple of months and no a single issue. Less than fiver for a tracked parcel up to 2kg. Plus I can drop it at my local new agents until 10pm and not spend they lunch hour queuing in the post office.

Think I'm a lone voice here but I ask my postie to leave parcels in the blue bin when I'm out

To be fair they are down the side of the house not on the street for collection, if I'm away I stick a note on the bin saying no parcels but I appreciate I'm taking my chances....

Still a stupid thing to do on bin day

My parents recently had a karcher window washer left in their brown bin, and they were in Spain at the time , luckily their neighbour saved it.

our posties are pretty good, one of them even signs for our recorded items and posts it lol, she is on talking terms with the wife so i suppose it ok.

i have had a few items left under blue bin, thankfully they are only collected every two weeks.

Go to their website and fill in a form. They will send you an official sticker for your front door which says that they have to return undelivered parcels to the sorting office and aren't allowed to leave it anywhere including with a neighbour.

A letter of apology from Royal Mail, but no forthcoming compensation. Been told it is up to the sender to make a claim as it's just treated the same any lost parcel. Despite the postman admitting he put it in the bin.

Royal Mails course of action to finalise the matter is to "pass the details of the incident to the manager of the delivery office, and to counsel the postman on correct delivery procedures."

What ****ing good is that to me??
