A letter of apology from Royal Mail, but no forthcoming compensation. Been told it is up to the sender to make a claim as it's just treated the same any lost parcel. Despite the postman admitting he put it in the bin.

Royal Mails course of action to finalise the matter is to "pass the details of the incident to the manager of the delivery office, and to counsel the postman on correct delivery procedures."

What ****ing good is that to me??

None at all. Total bollocks :x

WTF! Tossers!

Spoke to my postie yesterday - he won't leave stuff in our blue bin any more, due to a clamp down by the bosses

He said the biggest issue was thieves now looking in blue bin for parcels

Here we go again. I got this in the letter box last Thurday (Bin day)

This was my Secret Santa parcel from a TIG member.

Like most people I put all sorts of filthy stuff and **** in my bin. Literally ****, as my dog sometimes craps in the back yard so gets scooped up and bazzed in the bin. Supposedly the Royal Mail staff had been warned about putting things in the bin, especially my bin after last time. Very luckily it was only brown bin day, but the postman wasn't to know that and once again my SW goodies could be on the way to the dump.

PS: For yanks, foreigners and southerners. Bazzed = Thrown. :D

Thats just plain stupid
I also have dreadful problems with RM. In my case items going astray. In 4 weeks ive had 3 items going missing all from forum members and one in particular....ledy yoda cost me 60 squid. :(

You've got to be some kind of ****wit to put a parcel in a bin. To be fair it's not Royal Mails' fault, it's one man, one postman. I've been a delivery driver and you just don't put parcels in stupid places. Nowhere it can get seen/nicked, nowhere it can get wet/damaged and defo nowhere it can get taken by the binmen! I don't understand these drivers leaving parcels - if you don't get someone to sign, you've got no proof you've delivered it. You're just ****ing yourself over for a bollocking later on when the customer says they didn't get it.

Yup when you employ that many people a few twats are gonna slip through the net...

What is Royal Mails fault is the response.

 Sorry to laugh but that's unbelievable!
You should post that to Royal Mail's Facebook page. It may start doing the rounds. 8)

We quite often get things put into our food waste bin or glass box outside the house if we aren't in. The other day we were actually home though and the postman probably rang the bell (which doesn't work), fair enough we didn't hear him but instead of knocking he left a SIGNED FOR special delivery package propped up against the wall between our food waste bin..tracking still says out for delivery!!

I only noticed it because I went to take our rubbish out about 6 hours later and when I came back I saw it sticking out behind the bin!

****ing hell,, I bet he/she will not be getting a tip of you this Christmas, unless your tip is telling them to do there job properly the lazy bastards...

I'm a postie ( for the past 8 months) and would never do that - infact I don't leave them in the 'safeplace' either since anywhere outside a locked door is not safe. Customers ask me to leave them in bins or lob them over the fence for convenience. So I won't be getting a xmas tip either. When something happens I would be the first to get the blame.
I do the time consuming job of filling a card in and if I see a neighbour I'll ask if they'll take the parcel in.
Of course, just to make the matters worse, the managers try and get you to get rid of them freeing up space in the sorting office and more importantly hitting their 'first time delivery' targets.

Looks like it's not just the Royal Mail !!

It's amazing how this isolated incident made a national newspaper - definitely a no news day.

Yup, I was talking to Chubb Senior today and he started quoting things from this article, the price per package and how shite Yodel are. He won't buy anything online through fear of a non delivery. I left him to wonder around Cheltenham shopping like most blokes do at Christmas, looking like a pensioner with dementia who is lost

Comparatively I've not had that much trouble with Royal Mail, other than one of the posties insisting on folding our post before sticking it through the letterbox. He did this to some photos for my Missus, and got himself reported. He's doing it again at the moment so we're just keeping a diary of it before we report it again.

Yodel do my head in. My Missus ordered some stuff which was delivered by Yodel who, despite a note on the parcel saying 'please leave somewhere safe if no-one is in', left it on the front doorstep propped against the door in full view of anyone walking passed.

Tossers.

Sometimes it's impossible to post 1 or 2 items of mail into letterboxes due to the thick brush draft excluders on them. As soon as you push them through they bend and you just haven't got time to put your mail down each time and use the other hand to open the brush. You should never push too far either in case there's a dog lying in wait. And if someone sends photo's through the post they should put them in rigid packaging (like what amazon uses for dvds etc) that way the postie won't need to bend them in.

Yeah, I was aware of this :) Our door doesn't have a thick draft excluder and none of the other posties have any trouble at all, it's just one guy. I understand what you're saying about the photos but it's frustrating when mail gets outside your door in decent condition and is ruined at the last minute.
