I would love to find some laser discs with the first 3 films, that way i could watch the unmolested versions with the boys

I've thought of that also mate, but you could always look out for the DVD's that they released for a short period.
I wonder if they will release the original untouched version on blu ray?

Does anyone know?

It was the double bill I first saw the movies 81 I think. Brill day.

Me and my son (3) sat down to watch Jedi earlier today. It was his first watch - we saw it up to the Ewoks when he requested Peppa Pig was put back on

Not bad for a 3 year old though he said he enjoyed it and got his collection of beaters out from his Darth Vader case and played with them - He's still playing with them as I type - He has IG88 in a MTV-7 at the moment, nice combo Son

Haha that's a great attempt there! Mine's not even 2 and a half yet and I've deliberately held off any Star Wars at the moment. But I'm hoping that, come 2015 when he's well over 4, and with the new films coming out, we can have a marathon....

That's a better idea! - and that sounds like it will be a good marathon. He knows loads of the names already, got him a vintage Rancor monster recently, loves it :D

Just watched ROTJ in honour of its 30th birthday. I opted for the original theatrical version from the old DVD, and I forgot what a big difference it makes watching the proper version. No stupid CGI Sy Snootles band, beaked Sarlaac, ring when the death star explodes, the proper song at the end, and the correct Anakin ghost. I don't think I'm ever going to watch the blu ray or special editions again, they are just not the same. There's also a real charm to the "lo-fi" original, you don't need to see this film in HD to enjoy it.

Can't agree more Edd I watched the same DVD version over the weekend

Cgi/ hd/ blu ray etc.....just loses the overall effect of the film for me, I understand the marketing dollars have to fill the tills...and we've all bought them

It's a little like vintage collecting..V modern to an extent, you'll buy a few modern, as you will watch the new flashed up versions of the film, but we always look to the beginings for the true experience

:D :D

Yep totally agree, watching it on dvd or video is the best way to enjoy it without being distracted by all the stupid additions. I recorded all 3 films earlier in the year when the were on ITV just so I could watch them anytime on my sky box (having to walk over and put the discs in was just so exhausting ) and having adverts in the film really brought back happy memories of watching them as a kid on tv before we got them on video :)

And to make it complete all you needed was "Christmas Careline" telephone number scrolling across the bottom!

I was wondering that the released date in the UK was later than the US date as I was on holiday at the time in Bournemouth and watched it three times in a week and this would have been around early June.

When I got back up North it still hadn't been released! I did go and see it when it did come to Manchester - I saw seven times in 1983 - just couldn't get enough of it!

Does anyone else remember having to wait to see films even though they may have been released in other parts of the country? Might have been done to a limited number of prints available?

I never got to see any of the originals in theater... wasn't born :(

But Jedi was the first one I ever saw... my parents had it on a VHS tape recorded from Dutch television.
Good thing all the cool aliens and spaceships impressed me at that age, for the story must have been a bit weird without seeing the other two movies first. Hard to imagine how my live would be without Star Wars :p

I remember seeing all three as a kid, but I have no idea what order I saw them in or how often I watched any of them. I remember renting ROTJ a few times and we had a TV recorded version of Star Wars. I didn't actually own any of them myself until 1994 when the digital remasters came out.
