Rogue One Box Office Predictions

There really isn't the same buzz about Rogue One as there was TFA so I think 25% less is probably right although if it's a stinker (god I hope not) then it may struggle.
It also doesn't strike me as one to take the kids to so that will probably also hurt it a bit

It will do REALLY well financially I am completely certain.

It features two of China's biggest movie stars Donnie Yen and Jiang Wen, and China has three times the population of the US.

It releases in China on Jan 6th - watch the $$$ numbers rise...

In fact if you haven't seen it yet the Chinese trailer is pretty awesome. It puts more emphasis on the two Chinese actors and features some new footage - looks great!

That's just awesome! Cheers for sharing Matt 8)

I think it's going to be great and do really well. There's not as much hype as TFA, which I think is a good thing. I bet Disney are really nervous as it doesn't look like a kids film. Can't wait.

Well I think it will do very well and has huge appeal from the best time line also it is more like a war movie and has vader so I ll say close to 2 billion worlwide.

Strange.

Normally someone pops in about now to take the time to write a post about how they don't care about the box office.

Even though they clicked on the thread.

and made a post.

Hoping it is the film worthy of being 10 minutes before Star Wars.

It will obviously do very well not sure if it will gross half as much as TFA though. Have to admit I'm looking forward to it but not really feeling it. :?

These trailers are too good for it to be a complete flop, I think the SW folllowing is too strong to let it fail even if it is mediocre!

I think it will do well but hope it's not going to be a case of 'all the best scenes were shown in the trailers'.

If reviews start coming out to that effect then it could put a lot of non star wars fans off watching it at the box office.

For me, I'm more excited about the film than i was for TFA.

Really tough one to put any kind of number on... maybe two thirds of TFA takings at best.

My thoughts are that although it will fall well short of TFA at the box office, I strongly believe (based on the trailers) the gritty film making style that clearly is more in line with the OT than TFA fitting somewhere between OT and PQ aesthetics, the concept of a Sci-Fi/war film crossover genre, superior acting performances and that it clearly isn't just a re-hash of a story already told, it will be a much better film. It will also therefore be more loved in the long term by real SW fans for a lot longer too.

Will do very well, but don't think it will get close to TFA. China numbers will be affected by the New Year, where they're only allowed Chinese movies in theatres.

550-600m US.

80M UK.

1.4 B Worldwide.
