After Mrleemur posted a pic of that awesome Kuwahara BMX the other day I have been thinking about picking up an old skool BMX for myself.

The eBay BMX scene is similar to the Vintage Star Wars scene, hard to pick out the originals from the repros and overpriced BIN's.

I was wondering if anyone on SWFUK is a member of a decent BMX forum so I can pick up a reasonable deal and get some guidance. As you might guess I am after another SWFUK rather than an RS.

Or even better anyone on her sell Retro BMX's themselves? I recall someone mentioning it a while ago on here.

Well respected Euro frames from BITD.

http://www.vincentframes.co.uk/

I know the Vincent family and they are rebuilding these now to order.
If you're after a good example of one of the better bikes ie not a Burner. You better have deep pockets

Cheers mate :D

I came across this website while searching. It mentioned not selling older parts online as they cannot consistently stock them. Glad to know they could help me out.

You are right about deep pockets, I don't have them but you need a bit of wonga for the more desirable bikes.

Thanks for the pointer

Still gonna seek out a Chubb friendly forum

Raliegh Burners are cool and have their place, looking for something a bit more... 'upmarket'
They are iconic in the UK in yellow and blue though, tempting...

Signed up to http://radbmx.co.uk/ I am just awaiting approval of my membership application

I have a feeling what I am looking for will be out of my price league, it is interesting that 'repros' don't seem to be as frowned on in the community. Lots of repro decals about and some 'lookalike' bikes too.

Looking forward to seeing what is available though.

Good hunting JC, hope you find a suitably stylish ride.

Picked up a barey used Haro Mirra last year just to have something to ride about on and not have to worry about keeping it in the shed. Amazing how over the years all my technique has deserted me, used to bomb around for hours every day for years way back when with the local crew. Good times. Thought about getting a old school bike until I saw the top dollar prices they command, I buy cars for less!

Banned for being a snob

I was looking at the Burners, they do look good and were on my original shopping list, but the Kuwaharas, Redlines and Skyways etc knock them out the park. The trouble is there are too many to pick from so I can't decide and they are expensive.

Take a look here if you want some good examples...

The modern Haros are really nice, my neighbour has two. Smooth, lightweight and they look good. I have got a 2001 Mosh Bagley its a nice ride but heavy.

I have my eye on a cheap bike on ebay that I might 'upgrade' to look like an old skool classic. If its on I will keep this thread updated.

Just uploaded my bike to the BMX Museum :D

If anyone is interested... http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/mosh/67151/1#.UYgCHKI3s-A

Yeh, the Haro I got is decent sturdy all-rounder, fine for my modest needs nowadays!

Nice wheels JC, looks like a good runner and in cool Star Destroyer grey. :)

Really like Redlines too, not flashy, just great bikes to ride as I recall. 8)

Cheers Q, had it out today on an off road track. Its still got it (the bike that is not me).

Deathstar grey  Never looked at it like that before 8)

I liked Redlines as a kid, even got a Redline frame eventually, but it was heavy and let down by all the **** parts I transferred to it from my old bike

I am torn between a Kuwahara Laserlite and a Skyway TA, either way it will have to be a do DIY repro build to land in my budget. I will keep it for posing and the Mosh for riding.

I still have very fond memories of my mongoose decade, loved that bike 8)

I remember your Mongoose too Mumbo, well I remember wanting to borrow it

I have a pic of it somewhere... I think that blue framed bike you had used a Rally Burner frame.

Stormtrooper, they have re-issued the Chopper but I don't think the remake has the classic gear shifter

Probably has that silly 'only one person on this seat' safety message though

Your mean the recording breaking skid machine that left all of his competitors trailing in a cloud of dust smoke  and it weighed a tone! Wheelies were impossible

Yeah quite often used to live lifts to mates on that long seat - definite classic
