Reseal vs Beater

If the reseal is complete with all original parts and has been put together well then this beats out a beater for me every time. There is something else I like with reseals being the fact that someone once played and enjoyed the figure (just as long as they didn't chip the paint :lol: ).

Each to their own with this subject but any excuse for me to post this very old thread of mine is good by me

I really must update this thread as it's been way to long and I've now got the first 30 released as reseals.

Initially for me it was hands down a beater all day any day as we r talking factory sealed so original untouched etc which is what it is all about as far as I am concerned :!:
These days however I find myself in awe of the likes of Ian's reseal collection who has really made resealing MOCs an art form 8) So these quality reseals using all vintage parts look like high quality condition original MOCs obviously at a fraction of the price and that is the appeal to many.

Grant's 75% factory sealed chewy is v appealing-in fact at FF I was fortunate to pick up Gary Smith's old Palitoy 41 back original Stormtrooper that is around 50/60% factory sealed-enough that the figure can't b removed without further opening which is cool 8) The other 40 odd % has been sort of resealed, not in the class of Ian's resealing skills unfortunately but it does make the piece quite solid and at a fraction of the price a fully factory sealed example would have cost I am happy :wink:

The other super cool thing about this piece is that it is the actual example that is shown on the Cel Palitoy Tribute poster 8) 8)

Personally I don't think that either beaters or reseals get enough love. Both originals, often great prices compared to Mint versions, some people chase grades for massive price hikes which I don't really understand. Some of my favourite items are un/re-sealed- a Leia and Ben Palitoy 12 back with one side opened, and a couple of slit tops, a slit top Leia Organa tri, a Luke 30 back slit top. Many of these beaters and reseals display amazingly well and only visible from close up that are different to a pristine MOC and without as much pressure of worrying about dropping them or sun damage to be able to keep them on display.

Beaters and reseals are a fantastic way for collectors to get their hands on items that otherwise would be nearly impossible to buy in mint condition... To an investor, 'has to be mint, that's where the money is!' To a collectors, 'I'm just happy to own it.'

And let's be honest... You don't **** yourself nearly as much brushing pasted a beater or reseal than you would with a mint MOC, or in my case, butter fingers

I think I would rather have a rough carded example than a mint reseal. However if the sealed MOC is so far gone it isn't really displayable, eg water damage, fading or huge rips, then I may reconsider!

If its still a displayable beater then id say beater but if its dead then no, i have several reseals in my collection just down to price but also because they display very well.

I think it will depend on the item itself, if it was a common or rare. Ideally I would like a sealed sample in good condition but beggars can't be choosers some of the items I am hunting I will be happy with beater, open bubble, reseal or sometimes just card and bubble, that's how hard some of these items are to locate!!
