hey guys

Recently bought a vader saber off ebay. The seller had a neg for selling repro stuff as originals, but I naively thought, everyone makes mistakes. Bought it, its an obvious repro, painted red, which I scratched the paint off, and it was black underneath.I left negative feedback, and the seller contacted me saying this.

Hello
Very upset that you left negative feedback before contacting me with your concerns, a full refund would be offered if still not satisfied. I have been an eBayer for many years with an excellent record and a Star Wars collector for even longer and the item was bought and sold as vintage in good faith.
I hope that you will contact me and this can be resolved and the negative feedback removed.
Many thanks,
J21.

I do not believe a collector would be so naive to think it was a real saber, I've only been collecting seriously for the past two years, and I could tell it was a fake straight away, I probably shouldn't have left a negative so quickly, without consulting him first, but it angered me that such a blatant con artist would try to make money by deceiving people.

The picture, it looks a little to dark a red, but I thought it may just be a variation, as I don't know everything yet, and am still learning about all the variations.

Was I in the right to leave a neg without messaging him first? I'm not the first person to, and I doubt I'll be the last.

Heres the ebay listing, where it is deffo sold as vintage, not repro!

Ok, rant over!

You did exactly the right thing - would imagine a lot of the items he has sold are repros and people just haven't realised

One look at that picture and it looks very dark for a genuine sabre - you have to be so careful on eBay these days as there is so much of this crap about and often seller don't even realise it themselves

Can't believe you left this guy negative feedback! Poor guy just made an honest mistake................Nope you did the right thing, obvious attempt to deceive sellers with the description, he knew it was repro and hoped you wouldn't - hell the guy is called Joey the rat!

If you're going to buy off of ebay I can only recommend this bloke http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/iainitfc&ssPageName=STRK:MEFSX:SELLERID&_trksid=p3984.m1543.l2533

For an ebay seller he seems pretty decent :D
But you could save yourself any hassles (and Iain the fees) and buy direct from him here :D

Looks like the guy got away with positive feedback for these fakes:

Dude I would never buy something from someone called JoeyTheRat

You did the right thing of leaving him negative! Another thing I would do is report him to eBay!

Def did the right thing
If the guy gets round it by saying, you should have contacted me first :!:
How about, I'm really sorry, shame you didn't contact me first, but I will give you a full refund and you keep the good, I will leave it to you but it was an honest mistake

If I had made this mistake that's what I would have done

Anyway, sleep soundly, you've done the right thing bud :D

I would have go down the refund route first, get your money back then leave feedback along the lines off....

Beware sells repro's as genuine, received full refund.

I agree with Walkie on this one!!!! What a shady ass. He knew what he was doing...all the way through. If he has been collecting for years then why didn't he find this fake. Name, shame and add him to the list.

Repro= negative feedback.

It's the only way people will learn.

If a seller is unsure of an items legitamacy, then he should state it.

You need to go after a refund but will unfortunately have to pay return costs and be sure to send signed for. I presume eBay will side in your favour but haven't suffered this fate myself so perhaps someone else can confirm if eBay are on your side regarding repro.

Definitely done the right thing but like walkie says resolve the return before leaving negative just to ensure that the seller plays ball.

eBay stuck two fingers up at me a few months back because I left feedback for a seller and then asked for a refund because I found out he had miss sold it.

I learnt the hard way to only leave feedback once your 100% happy.

At least you know for the future, but look on the bright side, at least it wasn't a more expensive fake... but should you feel guilty? Hell no, the guy's a scammer, end of, and deserves all the negative feedback he gets.

Fair play mate you did exactly the right thing.

I don't buy off eBay exactly for the same reasons, you just don't know what you will end up with.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I dont write ebay off, ive had some finds on there that i love and would be hard pressed to find again, my trash compactor monster being one of my fav! I prob should have got a refund before i negged, but ive had customers unhappy with purchases before like stuff going missing in the post. I refunded them as I couldnt find my proof of postage receipt (first time i needed it!) So couldnt claim back, but refunded anyways. If they had left me a negative after i'd have refunded them i'd have been properly pissed off, as i did my best to sort it out. It wasnt much money anyways, and I couldnt be arsed to return the saber, as thats undoubtedly what he would have asked, at first class recorded, as it potentially albeit conveniently may not have arrived at his without, and it wasnt the largest sum of money in the world anyways. I think another neg in his feedback may make people think twice about buying off him. And i accept i was a ****ing moron to buy off anyone with a user ID like his!

Don't be so hard on yourself, mate! His username did make me chuckle, though. As Rob said, just be thankful you weren't ripped off with a more expensive item. Put it down to a learning experience :D

A fellow comrade!
I don't buy off eBay either for this hobby or any of my others at the moment actually.
