Real or Repro?

Hi,

I'm usually not too bad at detecting repros but I recently bought a broken tip single telescoping light sabre and I'm not convinced about its authenticity. It has a letter or symbol on one side. See picstures, apologies if they are not clear enough!!. It seems to be the flat tip version but it was a bit of a squeeze when I tried to put it into Ben's arm. My other original darth vader sabre fitted a lot easier.

I tried the float test but it sinks but so does my original darth vader light sabre.

The texture and feel seem good and it is a little discoloured half way up. I guess its just the lettering that is making me suspicious. Anyone advise?

Thanks,
AJ.

I say repro, but might be wrong. Wait for some others to have a say. I'm no expert on this stuff. :)

ok thanks again for your opinion!

anyone know what the deal is with lettering? My Vader sabre which is def original has no lettering? Is lettering a good thing? Anyone know what the letters mean?

It does look good to me also and I can't quite see why someone would sell a broken tip repro one. Strange seam line half way along though (if that's what it is?!).

These sabers do float and sink but you should be able to place it lightly on top of water and it floats but sinks with a slight tap.

Great info guys, thought I might be wrong and that is one of the great things about thus forum you don't get shot down when you are. :)

The one thing that put me off this was the separation line half way down, but as said before my knowledge is limited.

It would be strange to repro a saber and then snap the tip off, but I wouldn't put anything past some sellers. Just look at some of the repro card backs which are getting beat up to look like the real thing.

I've got the original here in front of me (with Obi-Wan - 1977 authentic which I purchased with my own hands when I was 6 years old). After looking closely at your image of it, the one in your photo doesn't look quite right to me. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but really for your sake I hope i'm wrong. If you're looking to purchase the original with the full-length tip still on it, and with Obi_Wan (without the Cape) in superb condition, just PM me.
