In this day and age of iPhone, iPads etc etc, do you think it's possible to pick up unnoticed, rare finds anymore? With so many forums, sites, blogs and the like, it seems to me that any perceived 'rare' item advertised doesn't stay unnoticed for long anymore. Just wondering on you guys views

I guess im wondering, Do you think it's possible anymore to find a rare bargain on the likes of eBay or the likes nowadays?

Have found a few rare bits and bobs on ebay and not overpaid too much. If you do, someone is likely to post soon after the auction ends asking why it went for so much. Then you have an anxious wait hoping you don't get gazumped before it gets posted out.

Face to face bargaining does avoid these issues!

Can get the odd nice find if people badly list items on eBay so you're fighting with fewer bidders, but sellers on forums etc can do so much research now that its definitely hard to get a great item for a great price.

IMO rare finds and pieces are still out there but they are much more thin on the ground then what they once were!

You need a series of factors to fall your way too bad listing/pics for the item to be fairly local so a face to face deal can be arranged etc. :)

It's not like it used to be. You would be very lucky now to find something rare and cheap. Ebay is a frigging nightmare :?

Sometimes you get lucky. At Celebration Europe in 2007 I picked up a previously unknown Luke Bespin MOC (not confirmed in the Kellerman matrix) and I guess the seller just assumed it was like any other, as there are literally dozens of variations of him on the ESB cardbacks.

Last October I picked up a 30A back Palitoy WBG for £26! on Ebay. It was very poorly listed :D :D

Oh and the No COO or date loose Darth Vader just last month of course :D

There definitely still out there, you just have to look hard. I've managed to find 4 "rare" items this year so far for unbelievably stupidly cheap prices.

No details on what they are sorry, one day I may wish to sale them

Listed wrong (Wrong title or category) is the key. There still exist people out there with no knowledge of how to list on the bay.

Example. "Old Star Trek guy Darf Vadeer"

 - that's the sort of thing all right

on the internet I'd say it's very hard nowerdays, like the guys have said above poor listings either through description or photography. I've found decent deals when attending fairs, November Memorabilia 2011 I picked up a really nice Yak Face for £2 from a dealer....couldn't believe it and recently picked up a Palitoy Snowspeeder boxed for £10 from a collectors fair

It's not just collectables though, bikes, guitars, all the things i love, ebay is far too popular these days, only tend to get a bargain on the **** that i like but no one else does!!

Had a suggestion to revive this old thread :) (cheers Mumbo)

May I present my mother In Laws carboot sale pickups for me last Sunday!

Result!
